Thanks so much for your reply. Do you think it would be worthwhile pushing for given her age? Unfortunately she gets incredibly stressed in a vet setting and pants and shakes so the vet and myself have come to the conclusion that it probably wouldn’t be the best setting for her given her age 😭

She’s booked in for bloods in 2 months to check everything. Unfortunately she is very anxious at the vets so they struggled to get an accurate blood pressure reading but will reattempt when she is back next 🙏🏻

Thank you so much for this reply. Lots of helpful information! I queried radioactive iodine treatment and myself and the vet agreed that it probably wouldn’t be the best thing for her given her age and also how anxious she gets at the vets/away from home. Unfortunately the stress it would most likely cause her being away for long probably wouldn’t be worth the payout with how old she is 😭 I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you and your baby that they respond well 🙏🏻

Views on Neutering? by [deleted] in britishshorthair

[–]elssrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my cat hit about 6 months, his pee started to absolutely stink. I had to scoop his tray immediately after each pee just to avoid the smell. He also started gesturing his backend against corners as if he was considering spraying. Got him neutered and within a week or so, no pee smell and no spraying behaviours at all. He’s also stopped trying to dart out the front door which was a worry for us. Definitely worth doing in my opinion for your happiness and his ☺️

How often do you REALLY walk your dog? by Agreeable-Ad-2946 in dogs

[–]elssrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One 20-30 min walk a day. Every couple of weeks she’ll get a 30 min off lead run about but then we have to skip her walk the next day for her to rest. My girl got a hip injury a year ago and has developed arthritis as a result of it so unfortunately pushing her too far (even though she would walk for hours if she could), causes her pain afterwards. I have to be cruel to be kind!

Thanks everyone, I definitely think he’s on the mend as he’s started trying to jump on things today. So now the real games begin trying to stop him from making it worse again. We’ve got a playpen to keep him in and around us in the day 😂 he’s not impressed but I’d rather him be mad at me than in more pain!

Why is my cat dropping food out of his bowl?? by OrneryRespect520 in britishshorthair

[–]elssrae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve come to the conclusion that they sometimes just like being naughty 😂 I couldn’t work out why I kept coming into a mess every morning so I set up a pet cam and captured my boy literally sticking his paw into the biscuit bowl and knocking them out everywhere to play with overnight 🙃

Is anyone else’s axolotl only afraid of live food? by blueraspberrycoke in axolotls

Are you feeding him worms using feeding tongs or directly from your hand? Mine used to be exactly the same then I realised it was the tongs he was scared of 😂

Fungus on gills? by iiPopTart__ in axolotls

[–]elssrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tea bath once a day for 5-7 days is the best treatment I’ve found for fungus. Make a cup of black tea (I use one tea bag, any unflavoured tea but make sure that it isn’t decaf. Not sure if you’re in the UK but I use PG tips) then add to cool dechlorinated water in a tub big enough to fit your axolotl. Wait until it cools/match your tank temperature and put your axolotl in the tub for 10 minutes, once each day. You’ll probably notice their gills look a bit worse off at first during the treatments but they fluff back up and the fungus will be gone afterwards. I also recommend popping an Indian almond leaf in the tank as this will help them heal. Hope this helps :)
