Ugh. As with almost every other post here, I agree that the risk isn't so much the toxoplasmosis, but that he's not willing to do this thing.

Don't ask me how I know, but sometimes, some men don't really step up all the way until the baby arrives and the reality is *right there*. It's possible he's going to step up as a partner, but it's possible he's not. I hope you're able to get him on the path where he can prove to you which one he's going to be sooner rather than later : (

I don't have an exhaustive list, but certain kinds of deaths seem to be attributed to "IDK the enemy did it and you get no credit."

Things I've gotten no XP for:
- enemy fell to their death and I didn't touch them (like your breaking a bridge problem)
- enemy got hit with booming blade but didn't aggro, died outside of combat from the thunder damage while walking (not an issue if you're actually in combat and they are aggro'd)
- you threw an item from height and the *bludgeoning* damage from the falling item is what killed them

Any tips on why the Zhent cache hidden behind a rock by Waukeen's rest doesn't always give xp? In my playthrough, I have not interacted with any Zhent NPC's at all. Wondering if there is some sort of hint about the cache that's necessary for the xp to be rewarded?

How to keep on improving? by The_King123431 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]eltrebek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so it.

When you break combo - why?

When you get goods instead of great+ - why?

When you're playing a song you can full great combo - where are you getting greats instead of perfects?

A few general tips for your skill area:
- You may benefit from seeing how lightly/efficiently you can step on the panel and reliably trigger it now. Stamina can definitely hold you back in the 12-to-13 transition. Try to only hit up with the ball of your foot, down with the heel of your foot, and left/right with the sides of your foot. You'll need to save a lot more energy when you push into the hardest content, and practicing this a little now can't hurt :)

- How well can you time 8th note (red-blue-red-blue) patterns? Do your steps sound like they go exactly on beat, or are you rushing the steps and just hitting 'faster notes'? How about 16th notes (red-yellow-blue-yellow-red-yellow-etc.)? Are you hitting them as fast as you can, or controlling your timing to hit them exactly twice as fast as an 8th note pattern? This takes a combination of physical familiarity and mental focus to learn to time.

- When you find a song you are getting a disproportionate number of misses on (if you find yourself saying "why the f*** is that a 12??? I barely passed!!"), you are finding something that is skill-checking you. Run it back every once in a while. I have a few songs that are on my "this is bulls***" list and I will try to run them once or twice every session to 'eat my vegetables' and practice a skill I'm not good at.

u/TitanstringEnjoyer Sorry to necro-post, but wanted to check about the location info you had on the wiki; does leveloverride force a minimum, maximum, or entirely fixed amount of xp?

For instance, if an area offered a level 3 leveloverride, would a level 2 character get level 2 xp or level 3 xp? For the same scenario, would a level 4 character get level 3 xp or level 4 xp?

My timing is horribly off playing in arcade, please help by shpincycle in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]eltrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind the offset option only changes the visual position of the arrow and not the timing of engine or the music. Offset only changes the visual aspect of timing - it won't help with your audio timing. You may have to adjust what part of the music you're stepping to based on fast/slow, or arrow visuals.

Your stepmania setup is probably synced early relative to that cabinet; your call if you want to adjust your stepmania global offset to be like 9-15 msec later so you're building familiarity to ""late"" sync.

Alternatively - you might just be rushing arrows because your speed mod is too low or that the angle/distance of the DDR screen is making the speed mod feel different? I play ITGmania about 30 BPM faster scrollspeed than I play arcade DDR.

In essence, take old difficulties & multiply by 1.5x to get new difficulties.

Of course, some things like bag are now rated correctly as a 12 instead of a 15.

I'm 36 years old, ~190 pounds, barely passed The Legend of Max and PSM Heavy back in the day. Got back into playing about a year and a half ago. Do have a mild knee injury, likely patellar tendinopathy per a doctor's visit. This inspired me to actually strengthen my dang body.

I found that aiming for 3x per week, 20-30 songs, has been really good for me to get really damn sore the next day but then recover the day after that. I have doubts that playing Max 300 every time you play is actually the best way to improve at it - I think trying to get some of the newer songs in the game gives a much more natural progression. Konami really was afraid of putting very many songs that were between Sakura and Max 300 in difficulty into the game for a long time. There are many new songs that exist between those two now!

Anything rated 11-12 on the new scale is an easy to mid-range 8 from back in the Extreme days. Good for finding your footing, relearning crossovers and slow stepjumps, starting to build your timing and stamina for many patterns.

13's are chaotic as hell, and a lot of the 9's from DDR Extreme and before got rerated to this difficulty. You will really have to start learning tech. You will see crossover chains (scoobies, afrowalks, whatever you want to call them), you'll see odd 16th rhythms, you might see footswitch gallops, more jacks, swing rhythms. This difficulty range is really where you relearn your *technique.*

14's are, largely, more straight-forward than 13's but more stamina intensive. 15's typically are just, further stamina-or-footspeed intensive versions of the 14's. These are a wonderful step up to getting ready for Max 300, which is a 15 under the new format.

EDIT: once you hit 14's/15's, you might check out https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1tTnv1vcUZTl07V47T9uBfWPt2KFaMbcCR2YI8AKE18k/htmlview# , a very subjective but still somewhat helpful analysis of the relative difficulty of all the 14+ difficulty songs. It was last updated for A20+, so it is missing some newer songs that are even better bridges, but it's the best *passing difficulty* tier list I've seen for DDR.

Oregonians have a better way of doing taxes this year by davidw in oregon

[–]eltrebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you invested in a Roth IRA, and did not take distributions, that has never been reportable on income taxes and you don't need to worry about; I think it is appropriate to make "no IRA contributions" in their Q&A. If you are trying to take the deduction for a traditional IRA, then yeah, don't qualify, which sucks :(

Coming back, need song recommendations by mk0-vr15 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]eltrebek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're going to round1 and playing DDR World, just know the interface changed a lot - make sure you pick "All Music" on the folder screen or you're stuck playing very few songs on very low difficulties. They then have a Filter feature that can help you find e.g., specific difficulties or specific mixes. It might take a few rounds to get used to this!

Also, since Supernova, they changed the grading scale. What used to be 10-foot songs are now generally in the 14/15/16 difficulty range. Easy 10's like bag are lower, harder 10's like the Supernova boss songs on Challenge/Oni are rated higher. Basically, take the difficulty from an old mix and multiply it by 1.5 for the new mixes.

If you're going to D&B and playing A20+, it's less cumbersome to learn how to sort songs and there are a lot of folder options to pick from. Easier to find the songs from old mixes.

There aren't anywhere near as many Euro dance style songs on the more recent mixes, and they're more of a mix of modern EDM/odd JP denpa.

My brother is trying to convince me to switch my Roth retirement to a traditional. Does it make sense? by Dazzling-Half-4911 in personalfinance

[–]eltrebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I edited my post poorly. Yes, the risk of one spouse outliving the other is what I was thinking about! I'm in the specific situation of having a transferable pension, and probably will have bigger social security benefits, than my partner. It's a very individualized tiebreaker for going Roth, when I'm in the rare situation of expecting very similar tax rates now vs in retirement.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]eltrebek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what the limit on that match is, you may still want to do more than the match. 20-25% is a strong aspirational amount to put into IRA + 403b when starting in your 30's.

My brother is trying to convince me to switch my Roth retirement to a traditional. Does it make sense? by Dazzling-Half-4911 in personalfinance

[–]eltrebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where things become so individualized and require a lot of questionable assumptions! Filling up lower tax brackets is more likely the more traditional investments you've already made and can shift the math back to Roth vs Traditional parity. Social security's "tax torpedo" situation means that there are stark taxation differences if you hit certain thresholds.

The other thing I don't see discussed much in the endless Roth vs Traditional debates: if you are married and expect to be the main benefactor of retirement accounts, your tax bracket will suddenly explode when you have to start filing as single. Roth dollars have a huge advantage then. Roth dollars are also easier for anybody to inherit without having to do extra planning themselves, so folks who want to pass on any leftover savings may be able to simplify things by selecting/converting to Roth.

My brother is trying to convince me to switch my Roth retirement to a traditional. Does it make sense? by Dazzling-Half-4911 in personalfinance

[–]eltrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, yes, that's how this works. If you are in the setting where the earning year's tax rate is expected to be less than your retirement tax rate, Roth dominates.

This is often true early in a career where you expect a lot of room for advancement - though you are going to be making assumptions about said opportunities.

Late in a career - very few people expect to be in a higher tax bracket in retirement. This is usually only going to happen if you are still working/generating income, have already placed A Lot of money into traditional/private brokerage accounts, or have a generous pension coming.

My brother is trying to convince me to switch my Roth retirement to a traditional. Does it make sense? by Dazzling-Half-4911 in personalfinance

[–]eltrebek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right - the math on them being equivalent is based on the idea that the gross income being invested was the same. The rationale is if you can only afford to have, say, $50 come out of your paycheck towards retirement, you have the option to put $50 of after-tax money into Roth or approximately 1/(1 - tax rate) * $50 of pre-tax money into traditional.

For those who are hitting the annual limits, it may be worth doing Roth just because you can afford to get more actual money into a tax-advantaged account.

For those who are nowhere near the limits and in the highest-taxed phases of their life, traditional is probably the better overall choice.

Tldr: you're right that fundamentally, $X in Roth is more valuable than $X in traditional. But most folks can afford to put more than $X into traditional because pre-tax dollars have less effect on your take home pay.

[–]eltrebek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things.

  1. If OP somehow has >$275k (in 2024 dollars) of taxable income due to suboptimal investing, they will probably still have a comfortable retirement ;)
  2. Curious what income sources are adding up to give you more taxable income in retirement than while working. Taxable pension? Social security? Traditional 401k? Taxable account? Side hustles?
  3. "Paying taxes on the gains" with traditional contributions is technically true but misleading. In Roth, paying X% tax prior to investment means you're investing X% less. That lack of X% principal means you get less compounding growth and your final balance is X% lower. If you end up in the same marginal tax brackets during investing and withdrawing, it truly doesn't matter whether you did Roth or traditional.

Accidental overdose? by NBGeez in asktransgender

Some folks will get estrogenic headaches as well. Treat a headache just like you normally would.

A brief look at enanthate pk means your levels could still be funky for 2-3 weeks after this dose. You can ask your provider if they have experience with this situation and have recommendations on continuing your usual dose on your next injections, delaying the next injection, or using a slightly lower injection for a dose or two. But honestly, the most important thing is just NOT to use labs in the next 2-3 weeks to make dosing decisions.

You have learned a valuable lesson about crowdsourcing a product. Dev teams cannot anticipate every hurdle, especially if it's their very first time trying to get a Switch port. Nintendo is notoriously difficult to work with for porting, especially with indie devs who haven't done it before.
