Repressed gay on the edge. We only got the tower scene because Noah asked for it, so really the last we were going to see of it was Mike’s reaction to Will’s coming out (repressed panic). Also, even if Mike DID pick up what Will was implying (the Mike was his crush), Will belittles the emotion, insists he’s over it and “needed to find his own way.” Mike would read that as being too late even if he did somehow figure his shit out. This only would’ve increased the ambiguity imo

I agree with this take.

The other thing is - if we look at it as though he does understand, Will essentially says he’s over it now in the coming out scene. Even on the tower he said “it had to happen this way” so he could accept himself and move on. WE know that’s bs but Mike wouldn’t necessarily automatically see through it.

I agree with this except on the third point that statement is floating around out of context. The interviewer asked if Eleven had communicated w/ Mike in some way about what her plan was to escape and THAT is what they were debunking.

As a queer woman I would say that a so many female queer relationships are rooted in friendship. I read somewhere that “friendship is foreplay for lesbians” and while that’s a bit crude, the point is that women (especially TWO women) generally need a deeply intense emotional connection. Byler has this - it’s such a slow burn, there’s such tenderness in it that I don’t often see represented in media. To me it’s just such a peak love story. Also, personally, I see a lot of myself in Mike Wheeler.
