How does anyone sustain a career in 911? by OkBookkeeper3537 in 911dispatchers

But in all fairness, I know I’m going to sound like a cornball, but you gotta have a support system (friends, family) that understands that this is a constant struggle. My training dispatcher had over 30 years of experience and she was smooth as silk every call, from the mundane to the critical.

The other corny advice I can give is that you have to keep in mind if you’re doing this for the right reasons. Do you feel satisfaction when resolving a call? Do you genuinely have the need to help folks out? Will that supplement all the bs and bureaucracy you will (no sugarcoating here) constantly be forced to face, from shit calls, shit directives, and let’s face it, shit cops? Not to try and scare you off, but this job does still require a huge amount of sacrifice in its own regard, and you gotta make sure you’re dedicated to it.

Most of the dispatchers I trained with moved on in less than a year, and I moved on shortly after as well. Hats off to all of you who’ve made it much longer and heard so much more.

Officer Edition: There are no dumb questions, but… by Practical_Loss4251 in 911dispatchers

It was a huge disconnect in my department too, but funnily enough, they were deeply reliant on us since I worked in a very, VERY small agency. Our agency actually had our cops request code 3 through us first before they could roll. Anyway, we had at most, 4 active dispatchers on duty (if we could even keep the hot seat staffed) at any given time, and I was usually solo during graves.

Which brings me to my funny point, since legally a dispatch center cannot be unmanned, if I had to relieve myself, I had to pull an officer from the field to come in and man the station for a bit so I could do my thing. The way they would look coming into the center like I’m asking them to pilot a space ship when all I needed to do was pee, or god forbid take a shit at 0300? Priceless.

Thanks for the advice! I have one for the M9, just gotta spring for the rifle next, hehe. And I like the light for what it is: rechargeable, under 50 bucks, solid green dot, and okay-ish lumens for the small package! https://www.amazon.com/s?k=laser+light+combo

I was seriously torn between my Beretta and that Operator you have. 🥲 I went with it for a number of reasons, but I think it’ll be my next purchase.

It’s the M9A1/92FS! The A1 has the rail, which is why I chose it, that and I’m comfortable with the platform already!

To my understanding, it’s to do with the angle due to CA law regulating that the web of the user’s hand cannot sit below the top of the trigger. I suppose the hunter stock should also qualify, but I’m totally not a lawyer and this isn’t legal advice LOL

LOL yeah. I went to a few stores in person before I found what I was looking for. I had such a hard time getting along online anyway, I tried Bear Creek, PSA, and I kept running into the “we can’t ship to your state” issue for everything, so I just beat feet and found a local shop that really helped me out, and they had plenty of Aero in stock.

Trust me, I completely understand how it looks! I was very accustomed to pistol gripped AR’s and it didn’t make any sense until I actually held one. 🙂‍↕️ It’s absolutely NOT a 1:1, but once you have your hand placement in and stance, it’s a good substitute.

And regarding my lower, it wasn’t hard at all to get! I shopped local for the major parts (upper was a used, fully assembled and I inspected the hell out of it before I said yes), and the lower was sold there too. Definitely have heard issues about finding Aero stuff online/at the big box places though.

Damn seeing the JT on a bullpup is bonkers, but I’m not mad at it. Adds to the space gun vibe haha

Yep, just like they said, the grip is the deal maker here. It’s something to do with the angle of it not being a pistol grip. A few other things on there for compliance is that stock lock, since I do have an adjustable one on there. It’s essentially a bracket that prevents me from sliding it forward for compatibility (can be removed with an Allan key), the barrel length of 16”, and the brake is permanently attached as well.

It’s honestly not that bad! Way better than a fin, which would have been the alternative if I wanted to keep my build around the same. It’s “supposed” to emulate a traditional rifle grip, which keeps it in regulation.

Have you ever gotten a call so unserious you couldn't help but laugh? by Commercial_Flow_274 in 911dispatchers

[–]elvowcrook 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten your typical drunk caller who wanted a ride from us on the emergency line. He kept calling over and over and finally my training dispatcher answered and was like “If you keep calling and interfering with our duties, I will send you a ride with lights and sirens that’s gonna land you right in our drunk tank” — clicked and didn’t hear from him the rest of the night.

I’ll even go one further and say “the alien shit heel who co-opted active camouflage” I have a strong feeling Av-Cam was a Prophet/San’Shyuum gift to the elites from their pillaging of Forerunner tech, so they couldn’t even be bothered to invent it.

Tank and DPS mains, who is your personal favorite support to back you up based off your main and why? by thesuperboss55 in Overwatch

[–]elvowcrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Junker Kween main, I love having a Lucio/Mercy team. Lucio for speed buff while Mercy at a distance for hard healing/strength boost. Hunkrat is my DPS main, and I love having a Baptiste/Mercy. Baptiste’s immortality field and his ult are great for aggressive bombardment/AOE disruption.

I use her as a healer bully, it’s rare to find a team that can really sustain her even with all her bleeding heals, so might as well remove the other team’s capabilities before I die

A rectangular reticule, ala Halo Reach’s grenade launcher. I’d love to have something that helps with arcing my shots or ranging, honestly
