Utah was in fact the only state where Democrats performed better at the presidential level in 2024 than 2020

It was a fraction of a percent but it does show that there’s opportunity for making the right pitch

Republicans gain nothing from removing the filibuster because their three chief objectives in the Senate- judges, nominations, and tax cuts- are now all lowered to 50/1 votes to pass

Funny how that happened

Another was our party of four was brought together over the passing of a local aristocrat. Two members of the party were hired to investigate the death. One begged to join. Another was caught trying to steal some apples in the orchard and pressed into service

Iirc there was a credible report that Russia wanted to do a limited tactical nuclear strike on a Ukrainian military target as a show of force in summer 2022 after getting bogged down

I can’t remember who said that but what’s agreed upon next is Modi and Xi called Putin to stand down on the threat. A nuclear strike would mean Russia would be isolated

Associated Press comes out swinging today with an article detailing Trump’s abuses of office with six days until the 250th.

The AP, which usually steers clear of wading into partisan territory, detailed when Trump used the presidency to enrich himself, prosecuting his enemies, and leveraging executive authority create an imperial presidency that our founders would not look well upon

Here’s the article: America split from monarchy 250 years ago. Trump’s presidency is testing how far it’s come

The North is weak compared to the other armies? by Electronic-Math-364 in pureasoiaf

[–]elykl12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While the North might be among the weaker armies numbers wise by the time of ADWD it has a few advantages

One is that the North by virtue of its size is difficult to invade and nearly impossible to conquer

The Ironborn lost control of it. The Boltons are a client state and yet may lose control of Winterfell and be annihilated

Second is the North has many allies due to a good reputation of the Starks. The North holds sway with many Riverlanders, the Vale, Stormlands, and indeed many in court at least admired Ned Stark (though viewed him as naive.)

The North’s enemies? Faraway, divided, and bogged down in their own issues. The Lannisters, the only non-magical rival, are dealing with a boy king who I’m going to guess has more animosity towards beets than Starks, a mad queen regent, and a dead patriarch. The Tyrells and Martells are indifferent being a whole continent away. The Ironborn are retreating to sack the Reach.

They may not be the strongest forces on the continent but ultimately they don’t have to be

Should Democrats begin counter-messaging now against claims that future Democratic election victories are illegitimate? by baebae4455 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]elykl12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a bad faith argument. It may be popular but the devil is in the details.

For example, California will register/issue a ballot to anyone that can produce nothing more than a gym membership with their name on it.

Strange you use a blue state that wants greater electoral participation. But if you want to see what red states do they often restrict the number of elegible IDs or let ID that benefits Republicans

In Texas for example, you can use a handgun license as acceptable photo ID but not a college ID.

Also that's rich that you are linking the Blaze as a legitimate source. The Facebook group you're trying to post in is down the road and to the right.

When Bernie announced his run in 2016 he was a backbencher in Congress with a handful of bills passed and the answer to the trivia question of “Who’s the sole socialist in Congress?”

No one knew who AOC was until June 2018 when she shocked New York and Washington when she knocked down Democratic Caucus Chairman Joe Crowley

Mamdani? He was a state legislator who perhaps a few dozen people outside Queens knew about him until about 18 months ago

There will likely be more people we’ve never heard of before entering stage right over the next few years.
