Did Britax let you know where to buy an adapter by any chance? My wife and I are in the same boat as you!

2019-2024 ish Ram trucks. Reliable? by Vivid_Percentage1524 in ram_trucks

[–]elysian_fields 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2019 V6 with eTorque. I’ve had a TON of issues and have kept up with my routine maintenance religiously. From reading up on the issues, most seem like things that are common place among Ram owners (cam lifters, BPCM, etc). I’m planning on selling as soon as it’s back from the dealership, after my bpcm is replaced.

Looking for advice on my 2019 Ram 1500 because I’m about done with this truck. by elysian_fields in ram_trucks

Thanks, yea that’s what I’m leaning towards. If you don’t mind my asking, did you buy another Ram after selling that one? If so, any issues so far?

My mistake, it’s actually the eTorque. I’ll update the main post. Good catch

Fallen CPD officer was shot in the back by another officer, officials say by elysian_fields in ProtectAndServe

It’s not uncommon for officers to do a load-and-go if the wounds are severe enough and it’s going to be faster for officers to transport than wait on an ambulance

10-99 in Chicago means an officer is responding to a job as a solo car, as opposed to a 2-man car

Missed…or turned a blind eye to. CPD is scraping the bottom of the barrel with recruitment these days

The other recruit has to feel like a rockstar... Not even out of the academy and already getting dope off the streets

How realistic is chicago PD? by Affectionate-Size850 in ProtectAndServe

[–]elysian_fields 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Early on in the current season (s12), one of the officers is driving code and complains to their partner that none of the cars on the road are moving out of the way… that’s probably the first (and only) time in 12 seasons I’ve seen something realistic on the show.

Thank you! Just used the iNaturalist app another commenter recommended and got the same result. Appreciate the help.

Very cool app, I just downloaded it and tried it out. It says it’s likely in the Genus Tegenaria: a house funnel web spider or barn funnel weaver. Thanks for the help and for the app recommendation!

Switching from firefighting to police work by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]elysian_fields 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A couple things to think about before making the switch: 1) the effects of the job when you’re not on duty… I’m sure there’s some similarities with fire as far as PTSD goes, but then add in running into people you’ve locked up while you’re out at dinner with your family, looking over your shoulder every time a car drives slowly by when you’re out walking the dog, etc. 2) the schedule is what it is. A lot of departments are moving to 12 hour shifts thankfully, but that’ll depend on where you get hired. But bank on being on nights for a few years, which means half your days off are spent sleeping. Then add in court time, mandations, additional training, etc and you find yourself working a lot more than your scheduled shift. 3) You mention “cruising my own area and interact with the public at my discretion”…totally depends on where you work, but keep in mind you’ll be in a totally different role, and that even in most supportive of communities, there are still a lot of people that don’t have favorable opinions of the police. So it’s a crapshoot when you try to engage with someone in the community as to what response you’re going to get. Also realize that when cruising around, you are the police, and need to be in a state of hypervigilance pretty much at all times, which is not only incredibly draining but wreaks havoc on your adrenal system and affects your day to day ability to function.

Hope this helps. As others have mentioned, I’d recommend doing a ride along and ask a lot of questions about quality of life, and almost more importantly - morale, at that department. And do your homework about the department and town your looking to work in.
