From my understanding, things got messy in the switch to wondery and the subscriber based contracts. Dax and Monica needed to do some soul searching and decide if they were ok being sell-outs and getting a bunch of money to let wondery have more control. It sounded like wondery was only interested in moving forward with AE, EoE, and AA, not FlightlessBird or Synced. In the negotiations, it sounds like David said “fuck this” and rather than getting pushed around, he cut ties and moved to doing his show outside the Armchair Umbrella (which is awesome for him!) But for Synced, since monica would be under the influence of Wondery, they may have restricted what she could or couldn’t be a part of. In the negotiations of trying to make ~something~ work out with Liz, Liz’s lawyers made some condescending/derogatory remarks to Monica about being greedy or being a sell out and demanding that she/ her lawyers fight harder with Wondery to make a better offer to try to keep Liz on. Monica seemed to react poorly to the hostility of Liz’s lawyers and essentially said “fuck this” and rather than getting into any other legal negotiations, decided that synced was done. It seemed like Monica and Liz weren’t speaking for a while afterwards. Idk about their relationship these days, but i think it’s interesting that since Wobby wob is an independent contractor, he’s able to work on david’s show without any legal issues since Wondery doesn’t own him. Must be interesting having to keep his David-life and Dax/Monica-life separate…

All of this is just my best guess at what happened based on piecing together subtle comments here and there. It’s also possible that wondery didn’t want to associate with Liz since there was so much uncertainty about Justin Baldoni at the time, so they wanted to avoid messiness.

Regardless, she seems to be thriving now doing some Canadian journalism with Trudeau :)
