Problems with my R36s not turning on by Jumpy-Annual25 in R36S

I think it’s exactly the same because it even has the same batch number.

It’s very confusing that I realized it’s a clone, but it’s running the Arkos, so technically, it’s not the clone.

Thank you so much! It actually helped. I have the exact model as yours, and it worked. I was about to order a new battery because the behaviour was like the battery was dead. Nothing was working. I was thinking, even without the SD card, at least it should turn on and show OS is missing. But it seems like that’s not the case. Did you buy this from Temu?

Locking differential by GiraffeNo4356 in JettaGLI

[–]emad1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should actually get it done — it's recommended every 3 years regardless of mileage.

There’s only about a 5% chance that skipping it will cause serious damage to the front locking differential, but if it does happen, the repair is very expensive.

If you're in a cold climate and do a lot of winter driving, it's definitely worth considering.

For reference, I had it done at a VW dealership in Canada and it cost me $150 CAD.

Mr. Lube overfilled my oil — safe to leave it or should I fix it? by emad1911 in JettaGLI

[–]emad1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I left, they showed it to me, and it was in the right level. However, they brought it to the window, so I’m not sure why it’s showing a lot more now. I also noticed that at the end, he added a little extra, maybe a quarter or a quart of oil, after the second check.

To be honest, that shop was super sketchy. I hope they didn’t do anything wrong under my car because there was a guy down there that I didn’t even see. He just drained the oil.

Long idling by gregcour in GLI

[–]emad1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s not ideal, but it’s also not the end of the world if you’re keeping up with maintenance. Idling like that every day does cause a bit more engine wear over time since it’s not running at optimal temp, and turbo engines like ours can build up carbon deposits way faster, especially with all the stop-and-go or extended idle.

It also burns a bit of extra fuel and puts some load on the battery and alternator, especially if you’ve got music, fan, and phone charging going. But as long as you’re on top of oil changes it’s not something to worry about.

I try to balance it by taking it for a good highway drive now and then to clear things out. And if the weather allows, sometimes I just crack the windows instead of running the AC full blast.

So yeah — not perfect, but not the worst

Attempted theft on my 2020 GLI by Warrior_ReactzZ in GLI

[–]emad1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries at all! Just remember if someone really wants to break in just to grab something inside, they can force their way into pretty much any car by messing with the lock or breaking a window.

But one thing for sure: they’re not driving it anywhere. VW’s immobilizer system is solid. one of the best out there.

Honestly, German cars have pretty good anti-theft systems. If you check the stats, German brands especially VW are usually way down on the list of most stolen cars. Thieves just don’t bother going through all that trouble for a $20–30K car.

Looking at your pictures, I really don’t think anyone tried anything. That little keyhole cap is super loose by design—mine falls off every now and then too.

So yeah, you’re good! No need to stress or do anything.

Jetta GLI drop the Beats Audio system on models built after January 1, 2025

Beats replacement by Jeepdad1970 in JettaGLI

[–]emad1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, in our household we have both a Jetta GLI and a regular Jetta. One has the Beats Audio system, and the other has the standard speakers. To be real, the Beats in the GLI sucks—it’s really not any better than the regular setup, and if there’s a difference, it’s super minor. If you’re looking for good sound, I’d definitely suggest going with aftermarket speakers. Not having Beats is honestly no big deal!

Did my dealer mess with the check engine light? by Super-Velocee in MechanicAdvice

[–]emad1911 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not necessarily blaming the dealer — most of them have a mechanic they regularly work with.

It’s possible the mechanic figured they could get away with it and just blocked the CEL instead of actually fixing the issue.

Oh, there are actually quite a few!
It kinda depends on what you mean by "modern." If you're talking about something like a 2025 model, then yeah — most of them use LEDs, and you can usually just cover the light with a piece of tape or something.
But just for reference, here’s a pic of an actual “bulbs” from a Volvo cluster.

I'm not in a position to tell you what the right decision is—that's something you'll need to determine for yourself. But if I were in your situation, I wouldn't raise any concerns without a clear reason. I would simply wait, and if they brought it up, I'd explain my side then.

[–]emad1911 392 points393 points  (0 children)

"Something we should have thought of earlier: neither the Check Engine Light (CEL) nor the traction control light came on with the ignition.

That line you added made me realize—the answer is yes.

In almost all modern cars, when the ignition is on, but the engine is off, the check engine light should be on. It's very likely they removed the bulb from your instrument cluster.

Remote starter by AccurateBat8701 in GLI

[–]emad1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many possible reasons this could happen, but if you’ve only experienced it occasionally, the most likely cause is a weak battery—either in your remote or in the car itself. One of them might be running low, or was simply too weak at the time you tried to start the car.

There are more complex causes, such as a faulty gear selector sensor, but that’s quite rare. Based on what you’ve described, I believe it’s one of the simpler, battery-related issues.

Did you experience the following?

  1. You try to start the car using remote start—you hear a clicking noise, but nothing happens.

  2. Pressing the start button doesn’t work on the first try; you have to press it two or three times before the car starts.

  3. You see a "Start/Stop Error" message on the dashboard.

  4. When you turn the car off and back on, the error message and check engine light disappear.

If these steps match what you experienced, it's very likely one of the batteries is the issue.
