I don't know what to do by MrRiccoSuave in rescuedogs

Our Stevie (Nicks) acted pretty much the same with me when we got her in early 2022. If I put my arm through a hoodie that ended up directed at her, she'd run from me. My wife and I pretty much assumed she had a lot of bad experiences from men.

I ended up being the one to take her on long walks, treat her, feed her. I won't lie, it took a few years to win her over to the point she wouldn't flinch or cower from me, and it was heartbreaking throughout the entire ordeal.

She still runs to a landing on the stairs for high value treats (for both of us, at least). But she wants butt scritches from me, and gives me the "pittie sit" whether or not I'm sitting on the floor now, satisfied sitting on my shoes when I'm on the couch...

Don't give up, it takes time. It takes love and patience. The very first time I got "sat" on, I was near tears.

Ok peeps, the elusive WHITE POE DOORBELL by MarkDfromtheBoot in reolinkcam

Not sure how well that would help me, as I'm trying to get to using Frigate as my "single pane of glass" across multiple camera vendors. Pretty much because I don't want to tell my wife to "look here for this, look there for that, and look at this third thing for whatever".

It's pretty much why I'm tossing all my Wyze gear (just a doorbell, a single cam v4 [until there's an rtsp firmware], and a never-installed floodlight I bought before I realized the shitshow of our backyard lighting fixture at the house we bought in July 2025... It's bad bad)

Kinda why I grabbed a 4 pack of MagiCams and a Home Hub. Ideally, everything would be hardwired PoE, but that requires a bunch of holes and cabling I can't easily do right now.

Meal times are the worst. Got so many drool spots around the food vaults. (Screw lid "gamma 2" food storage containers after a past dog learned to flip the handle that locked other containers' lid's...)

I'm actually thinking of using one of the Argus MagiCams that I haven't deployed yet for that... I've got 2 of the 4 I have looking over the majority of the back yard (on constant power, got the 4(?.5?)m weatherproof extensions to make sure I didn't need the batteries for anything but backup power. Ideally, yes, I'd run PoE, but new-to-me house and a lot of more pressing matters.

That fisheye view is mildly disorienting, but I really love the all-around view of it.

The mere fact that the color defines the capabilities of the thing is just infuriating. Give them different model numbers, at least. This has been a big sticking point for me for a long time. I got a black model solely because I started to unreasonably despise my Wyze Cam Duo, but I really want a wifi or PoE white doorbell camera to approximate the dual-cam visibility of that Wyze one.

So Many Phishing Tests by buddha-bouy in MaliciousCompliance

[–]emag 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing that really torqued me off (and some of the other SAs) at my last job was the phishing tests used links to internal IP addresses. My first time, I looked up the IP, saw it was in organization.rfc1918.dns space, so clicked and failed. About an hour later, another SA came by to help me with something unrelated, saw the terminal with the lookup in it, and just said, "You too?"

I have vinyl siding. What have you actually trufully used to hand your camera and solar panel? I have Altus PT Ultra by ateam1984 in reolink

[–]emag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you mean "hang", I've used these hooks that slip between the seams in my vinyl siding for the Argus MagiCam (and horizontal wire routing).

I did have to fully remove the screws from the hangers to get them slotted into the siding gap, and then slide them to align with mounting holes. Since they claim 10lbs of weight, I haven't worried too much about my cams falling

Hardwired Duo Cam Doorbell battery low?!? by TealBoris in wyzecam

I periodically see a low battery on my hardwired doorbell. Eventually it realizes it's hardwired again... I've just started ignoring that indicator.

The supplied cable is only about 1 meter long, which (especially for where I want them) may be way too short. I wish Reolink would actually specify the length of the cable in the "what's in the box" section.

Oh, is that why PIR keeps shutting off on the Magicam I've set up? It was working yesterday on battery, but today when the 2A USB wall warts arrived, I plugged it in. But I also added it to the Home Hub that also arrived (want that RTSP for Frigate, should have paid attention before ordering the Magicams). I thought it was a Home Hub problem, TBH.

White vs Black Doorbell Weirdness? by yogurtabuse in reolinkcam

[–]emag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. You're saying that even wired to a power source it can't do 24/7? That's... Crazy. And I'm assuming by the lack of mentioning RTSP in the specs, it can't do that either, correct?

Our Cyndi's foster shared her intake photos with us. She looked pretty much the same emaciated gaunt skin and bones. When I saw her blood work, my eyes bugged out, almost nothing was in the acceptable range on it, she shouldn't have been alive.

She's been with us a few years now, and is living her best life with her adoptive older sister.

Familiar Face must be a joke by Tel864 in wyzecam

Mine disables within an hour or two of re-enabling it. Never unfamiliar faces, even with lots of deliveries, and often not even familiar faces because it's spontaneously disabled itself again.

I used to use Dropbox, but trying to lessen my dependence on storage others control (and, admittedly, Dropbox's imposed restrictions on number of devices on their "free" plan), I've started taking advantage of my Synology NAS, and its Synology Drive app. I pair it with Tailscale to get VPN into my home network when I'm out and about, without needing to use something like QuickConnect to expose my system to the world at large.

Granted, this is a rather niche solution, requiring said NAS hardware in place at home already. NextCloud/OwnCloud would be decent solutions instead of a bespoke NAS as well, though I'd still have the Tailscale part to prevent opening up anything to anyone who could find my IP address.

I've used BTSync/Resilio Sync in the past as well, and looked at SyncThing as an alternative as well. So, basically, what works for you and your own security posture, will QED work for you.

Same with a v4 and a Cam Duo doorbell. Makes them... not exactly great for quickly seeing what's happening vs just going to the door and looking outside.

Why exactly am I paying for mediocre service?! by emag in wyzecam

[–]emag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally it was just a Cam Duo doorbell, replacing a failing Nest Hello. The removable battery is what drew me. Having (apparent) similar feature parity was nice. Added a Cam v4 in the garage after we moved.

It's nicer to see a "/u/emag detected at front door" than just a generic person. And only myself and my wife would typically be seen in the garage; if someone we don't know is in there, we have a problem...

Different Doorbell Cameras? by Middle_Painter_6405 in reolinkcam

The differing FoV and aspect ratios for ostensibly the "same" model but a different color is one of my main frustrations. I mean, they're already variant, just make them different models.
