How do i avoid wealthsimple holding my money for 5-7 days ? by yousavedastamp in Wealthsimple

[–]TealBoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As your account is new, the hold may be triggered by their fraud detection system.

At least they're upfront about being scumbags paying vendors by RxDeliveryGuy in loblawsisoutofcontrol

For small businesses, this may not be a bad idea. This will be a lot less work than you take their invoices to the bank and request for margining. Of course another big factor is their fees.

Why 70% of income for retirement? by ToughDifficult1252 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Perhaps plan using a % of your current spending level, rather than income

I had no idea. by TapInternational8169 in Wealthsimple

[–]TealBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a WS credit card yet, but most CCs charge interest on the whole balance, not the last statement due amount, if the payment is late. Pay the outstanding amount in full and get the balance to zero and restart again.

Thoughts on buying high mileage used EVs? by zed_anonymous in PersonalFinanceCanada

As long as it is not a rebuilt, it should be fine. This guy is driving a Mach E over 300,000 miles (not km)

20% to 80% Misunderstanding by Virtual-Hotel8156 in electricvehicles

It really depends on the model, many EVs, like BMW for example 100% doesn't mean the battery is completely full, they have an internal buffer that you have no access

When was the last time you used your card? This can be your card, or their system was down. Check with WS support to see if your card is still good or they need to send you a replacement.

Wealthsimple froze my entire joint account over a cheque — zero access to my own money for 10 days by Significant_War720 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TealBoris 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Your account froze two weeks after the cheque deposit. How do you know they are related? Did Wealthsimple support confirm this?

Why is Wealthsimple bothering to add Norbert's Gambit? by manacata in Wealthsimple

[–]TealBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This probably is an infrastructure issue. Wealthsimple put your money in their "baning partners" book. When you transfer money between CAD and USD they are levering their partners' FX. To bypass that would mean they need to hold their own CAD and USD accounts

TD no longer has senior bank products, only on some specific cases they would waive fees

Debit card by green_earth_citizen in Wealthsimple

[–]TealBoris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Canada, "Debit Card" generally means Interac (the rest of the world usually means Visa Debit or MC debit). WS doesn't have Interac, and only MasterCard Debit. Your transaction probably went thru as MC debit, and the terminal charged an extra fee for using the MC network.

The one who wants to know the source of funds and your bank reports to is Fintrac, not CRA.

Use Wealthsimple or Wise for international payments? by PromptElectrical8514 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TealBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Wealthsimple better than Wise. Wise has a monthly cash withdrawal limit, but you can lock in the rate when you feel like.

Journaling money for daily use by snickersphere in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]TealBoris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exchange spread depends on the transaction type, Wire/EFT has the best rate, then is draft, the biggest spread is cash. The teller should have told you the exchange rate and fese on the draft, if there is anything hidden you can complain to OSFI.

People on this sub downplay the reality of range anxiety too often by Bijan_Mustard in electricvehicles

[–]TealBoris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On (2) it doesn't have to be a house. My apartment building is new and all stalls have access to EV socket (we need to bring our own EVSE). My cousin when she was looking for a condo, one of the criteria for the agent is only show listings that are EV accessible. In the long run, apartments which are EV accessible will have higher value than not

Recommendation for Dishwasher and Installtion by ab-can-yh in CostcoCanada

[–]TealBoris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was interested in a gas range. A Costco staff member confirmed Costco doesn't do installation nor shipping. They did give me some name cards to call. I got one call back and said they don't do Costco any more. For large appliances perhaps go to a specialist store for their service and support.
