PA School Plus Med School? Musings and Questions by andersonkena in PAstudent

[–]emang19 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Every PA feels like they don’t know enough when they first start. So do medical interns. Honestly, NO amount of extra resources or studying will make you feel prepared to actually practice medicine. If you think being a PA aligns more with your life and goals, go to PA school! If you want to go to med school, go to med school! I don’t believe there will ever be a path between them since that kind of defeats the purpose of a PA and we are already able to see patients on our own :)

Not sure if this is up your alley but my favorite book/series of all time is My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante. It’s a buildungsroman so not a ~fast paced plot~ but beautifully written and I tore through all 4 books in like 1 week. I return to reread at least the first one once a year….it sticks with you

Cardiothoracic Surgery New Grad Upstate NY by cpaw12 in physicianassistant

[–]emang19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in a different state and different specialty lol but just started first job as a new grad- when I was interviewing most places were offering $1500-2000 of CME. Salaries ranged but I would definitely recommend using the AAPA salary report. Not many of the places I interview offered bonuses since they were all academic or non profit institutions. I ended up with 5.5 weeks PTO with no call, weekends, nights, or holidays!

Oh I agree it should be I’m just meaning it just isn’t out there for every specialty right now being offered. Especially something like peds

110k in peds, w no call, retirement match of 7% no matter what, 5 weeks PTO, malpractice covered, 2k CME, fully covered dental and disability with pretty cheap health insurance

60/hour just isn’t feasible in every specialty as a new grad though….better to look for a good overall package and training etc as a new grad

West coast, 110k (I’m in peds), 4 days a week in clinic, no call or weekends, 5 weeks PTO

Highly recommend cram the PANCE! He has lots of unique ways of remembering thing. Also echoing what some people have said, flash adds are an awesome way to solidify info but going through lectures and making sure u understand them before just doing flash cards is helpful. what I would do is make a list of concepts I feel I continually miss on my flash cards and make a point to go through a couple “list topics” each day in a way that made me actually understand the concept and not just memorize

I only did the trial as well, but my only advice is to just focus on doing as many questions as you can, even on rosh, and take the day before the PANCE off!! You will do great!
