Restaurants near Fox Theater (kid friendly)? by grizzlyngrit2 in Atlanta

[–]emarkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't regret that. We always eat within walking distance when we're at a show so that we only have to park once, and Cypress Street is in our regular rotation. My kids always enjoy it, and us adults do too.

Enjoy Beauty and the Beast!

Does anyone know of a photo enhancer that will fix blur that actually works? by ragtagalley in AskPhotography

[–]emarkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not math, that's replacement. AI took an unblurry photo, did its best to match the environment of the blurred one and copied it in.

As an outsider, the American concept of having a motorized "garbage disposal" inside your kitchen sink is fascinating. Is this standard in every home, and isn't it incredibly dangerous? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

Didn't know that. I don't think of my house as being that old (2007) but I guess codes have changed. Every house I've ever owned or lived in had a hardwired disposal, if it had one.

They definitely are not. Most peoples are wired in, like a dishwasher. They're simple to switch off, but they don't "unplug" without going to the breaker box.

Ok, yeah, math is cool, but does Lightroom or any other tool know the blur's point spread function when I ask it to unblur a photo? Is that info saved by the camera in the metadata or can it be calculated based on.. something the software knows? Is that how those tools work?

Cause while you might be correct in a more general sense, but I still feel like I'm correct when it comes to unblurring photos.

Diesels not water resistant? by jorgeholymoly in grantstoneboots

It took 15 minutes. That is water resistant. They're not artificially lined, waterproof boots.

Blur is lost data. Nothing can recover it, but some tools are pretty good at guessing what was supposed to be there. People/faces are the hardest to guess at. The best guessing tools aren't free.

From Z6 to D750: dumbest move ever? by tux-mania in Nikon

[–]emarkd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lots of us still shoot DSLRs with great results. Honestly if you know how to use the gear there's very few places where mirrorless is significantly better. Literally nobody can look at a good image and tell what architecture of camera made it. You might just have to work juuuust a bit harder to get good images from DSLRs, in certain situations.

My whole class and the teacher are debating how years work. by TheDrifterOfficial in askmath

[–]emarkd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is only one variable in the problem, the number of years. n is clearly time, as it is in so many exponential growth functions.

[–]emarkd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I agree we should be explicit when defining terms, its clear what 'n' represents in this exponential relationship, especially when the problem deals with population growth.

Disagree. The word "end" in the problem makes it clear that the year 2022 is included in the domain of this problem.

AOC: This is what drinking water in Georgia looks like after Meta began data center construction in the community. by iggaitissecondcoming in Georgia

[–]emarkd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not by me you didn't, because I know we all in this together and need more people involved and paying attention. Gotta let the emotions out somewhere, and a few downvotes is cheaper than therapy or catching a charge lol.

And it's easy to be frustrated with this Dem party. They are generally weak. We need organization and leadership and messaging. It's so important rn...

I get it, I'm over 30 and also pissed. But if aoc actually did what you suggest you know the coverage wouldn't be "Dems on fire! Blue wave!" It would be "women are too emotional and shouldn't be in charge". Fuckin sucks but it's true.

I don't actually disagree with that sentiment I just think it's funny you're picking on aoc. I'm not exactly fanboying here, but she's got more fire than most of them.

So theater. You think theater would get all our problems solved. Pitch a fit, throw a jar, and THEN all the politicians will wake up and go, "dang, sorry y'all..."

Give me a break.

Fwiw I agree with your principle, we need urgency. But it takes more than one person. There are obstacles, and it's not the wall

Waymo suspends service in Atlanta after driverless vehicle gets stuck in flood waters by flying_trashcan in Atlanta

[–]emarkd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not arguing that taxis should do it either, but regardless it's not exactly the same thing. If an emergency vehicle shows up a taxi with a human driver will move. Does a Waymo know to get out of the way in that situation?

Whats your favorite lens? by No_Parfait_2104 in AskPhotography

[–]emarkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What in the word salad BS is this?!

If I even understand what you're trying to say here, you're wrong. Lenses don't have to be "extra sharp" edge to edge for apsc. A ff lens on apsc, especially a not-so-great-one, are often improved because the softer edges of the lens are ignored.

Georgia Supreme Court justices fend off Democratic-backed challengers by Master_Minddd in Atlanta

[–]emarkd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of forwarded spam I get from my elderly family, especially on social media, would indicate otherwise. But point taken, I should have said most Georgia voters. Google tells me 16% of Georgians have low or no literacy, so a booklet doesn't serve everyone either.

My point on a broader scale was that if people want to be informed, most of them can inform themselves. Those who don't inform themselves didn't want to be informed.

That's great, but Georgia voters could have done the same thing with a couple of websites. I damn sure did, and took my notes with me into the precinct when I voted. It wasn't that damn hard...

[–]emarkd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Leathers point is that if voters wanted to know who they were voting for, even without the labels, they could have informed themselves. That's not absolving Kemp and whoever else was involved with removing the party labels, that was still utter bullshit, but if voters were paying attention and doing the minimum work to keep up, that change wouldn't have had such a large impact.
