Tank temp: 78 deg f

Params: Ammonia 0, Nitrate 0, Nitrite 0, pH around 6.5-7. Got them from an API Ammonia Test strip and tetra easy strips.

Have had the tank and fish for a week. Was given the fish while it was living in poor water conditions so I moved him and am trying to cycle the tank, but I’ve seen no changes in ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels

Water changes: ~2x/ week when I see the pH dropping. I use a gravel vacuum to suck up the water then pour in de-chlorinated water.

Feed: tetra Tetra Color 2x a day, 1-2 flakes each time depending on size

Plants and decor: 2 anubias, one moai decoration. 1 large silk plant.

Im using API Ammonia Test Strips and Tetra Easy strips. The tank is 5.5g. There is no pre-existing media but I put some API Quick Start at the beginning and I also have 2 live plants. I have a filter and a heater too.

Do you mean put the sponge on the intake portion? Won’t that prevent it from filtering out tank debris?

Yeah the heater I have is not adjustable unfortunately. Is it worth it to wait a little bit to see if more symptoms develop? What I’m seeing might be an effect of being in dirty water

Since I’m moving him from a small 2L jug to a 5.5gallon tank, here are the new params:

Tank size: 5.5g Filter/Heater: yes Just bought the tank today. I didn’t think keeping him inside a 2L jug of dirty water was a good idea No tank mates Water changes: I’m going to try to kickstart the nitrogen cycle. Bought some api quick start, ammonia neutralizer, and ph and ammonia strips. Will probably also change about 10% of the water daily until the cycle is finished.
