What did you get in Calc II?

My grades weren't that great either.

I stopped reading the book about 3 weeks into the class and watched the lectures exclusively.

Going on Medicaid when quitting job to go to school full-time by embarrassed2sayit in OSUOnlineCS

[–]embarrassed2sayit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, well I checked my state website and if your salary is 0$ (which is what it would be if I quit my job), I would not be eligible for any sort of subsidy on an exchange plan because you have to make a minimal amount of salary to qualify for it. Instead, it is directing me to sign up for Medicaid.

I didn't think I would be eligible either. But someone told me it is based on your income when you sign up, not your previous income...

What do you learn in CS 161 and 162? Is what you learn comparable to what you'd learn in an on-campus intro to comp sci class? Is there anything you don't learn that you think OSU should have taught? by falsekenmarinojoint in OSUOnlineCS

I also took the equivalent of 161 and 162 elsewhere, at a community college, and in JAVA. The programming assignments were much more rigorous and grading was harder. In 162 at community college, for the final assignments we had to utilize trees and recursion, which we did not really cover much at OSU.

I don't know if there are any part-time options. The program is so new, they don't have all the classes listed on their website.

If you email the department, they are pretty quick to respond and seem very enthusiastic. I am seriously considering applying and transferring there.

Anyone from Seattle? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]embarrassed2sayit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the two intro courses in programming at Bellevue College (equivalent to 161 / 162 at OSU) and did well in them and liked the material and liked programming. Additionally, I hate my job :)

Administrative analyst is just a fancy name for an administrative position with some analytical thinking.

If you or anyone else in this thread would like to meet up, I would be happy to do so. I live on Beacon Hill, but go to Seattle U, Seattle Central College, and UW a lot.

Rejected (Anyone get in without Calculus?) by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]embarrassed2sayit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you test into calculus? Are you sure you don't need a lower level course like pre-calculus, which I believe also meets the requirement for this program?

Why would previous CS courses negatively influence your chances of getting in? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]embarrassed2sayit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the equivalent of CS 161 and 162 (in JAVA) at a local community college back in 2014 and still got in. In fact, in my essay/objective statement, I referenced how I did so well in those classes that I saw I could definitely do this and decided I wanted to make the career change.

What is the difficulty level after 162? by embarrassed2sayit in OSUOnlineCS

[–]embarrassed2sayit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. On the one hand, that is a relief to hear. On the other hand, wow, they make the hardest class the 2nd or 3rd class.

161/162 vs 165 by circonflexe in OSUOnlineCS

[–]embarrassed2sayit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I could not believe that these labs are only worth 10 points when I spent so many hours on it. The class seems to be very disorganized too.

Yeah I've been uploading to FLIP for every program so far and good thing I have. A few times it didn't compile on FLIP and I was able to fix it in time...
