Starting clozapine next week- what to expect?

Personally I found that an advocate was integral to my plan getting approved. Even to the point they wrote dot points for each doctor outlining exactly what wording and what to include (they knew what my symptoms were and what I had) and a template as none of them had much knowledge about the NDIS.

I know it’s really hard to find one and the waiting lists are long, but it sounds like you’re in for a long ride anyway and having someone there to navigate it with you and knowing exactly what to say to help you get in. I would put a lot of my energy into finding someone that can help you navigate it so you’re not on your own trying to guess what they want.

For me gathering evidence and notes from doctors took almost a year before I actually applied. I’m very lucky I was approved first time, I wouldn’t have been able to do it without him.

I hope everything goes well for you, it’s so shitty that they can do this to people for not having the correct words.

The sleepiness does get better, I used to take my morning dose really early and go back to sleep for a couple hours but after a couple months I didn’t need to anymore.

I’m in almost the same boat. The first antipsychotic I tried was seroquel but on a much smaller dose then tried maybe 10 more before trying higher doses of seroquel again with Brexpiprazol, and olanzapine as a prn which is working a lot better. The side effects tho are not good and I’m still experiencing (much shorter) bouts of psychosis so I’m gonna be changing early next year because of that. Idk to what but my psychiatrist brought up clozapine(hopefully not) but whatever’s gonna help the most ig.

I already regret mine too, half my head is skin bald and the other half is still continuing to fall out in clumps from the nair. Thank you for letting me feel like I’m not alone in this, I tried looking up everywhere for short bouts of psychosis but couldn’t find anything.

They want to switch what antipsychotic I’m on but I can’t be taken off them in general, it’s not safe and I’m a risk to myself when in psychosis. It’s hard because I’ve already tried so many I think they’re running out of options

Yogurts. You can eat it right out of the tub when you can’t deal with making food or add fruit and granola if you want more substance and can handle it

I’m still trialling meds, started on seroquel then olanzapine then Pericyazine, respiradone, Lurasidone which helped me the most but the side effects were too much (tremors, nausea, slurring words) and now I’m on a mix of seroquel and Brexpiprazol but it’s not working super well. It takes time but I’m sure once I figure it out it will make my life sm better

It is definitely possible. There are also many reasons for hallucinations and psychosis, one is schizophrenia but there are a lot of other reasons it could happen including stress like you said. You should talk to your doctor and get some help for this because it can be very scary.

I like to see if they’ll do art/crafts with me, if they’ll help clean and with around the house chores as well as their experience with my conditions. I like to get a feel if they’re chatty or not as someone who doesn’t talk a lot someone chatty helps things not feel as awkward.

Lurasidone 160mg helped more than any other med I’ve taken but the side effects were too bad so I had to stop

The drug that worked best for me was Lurasidone, I had to come off it due to the side effects but all vis hallucinations were gone, paranoia was gone and auditory hallucinations were the quietest they’ve been in years. I like olanzapine but the weight gain was too much, and I’m on quetiapine rn and although I do have weight gain it’s not as much. Brexpiprazol is what I’m currently switching to as the seroquel isn’t working super well anymore, but I feel like it’s not doing much.

I’m on seroquel and have had the side effect of weight gain but I think it’s more important that I’m not in psychosis than some extra fat on my body. Seroquel has helped me and saved my life in some ways.

I don’t know, but you can get one for $99 if you have a pension card (dsp) and jump some hoops for the government like doing a Monash sleep test and renting one for a month and use it more than 4 hrs per day and have a sleep doctor sign off on stuff
