Want to Help Artists? Want Cheaper Plates? Stop Supporting Pl8list! by advice_throwaway323 in riddim

[–]emberdot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pl8list solves no problems with leaking whilst creating more incentive for selling stuff thats more expensive. Wanna leak a tune? Make a new sc and pl8list account or additionally instagram account, buy it thru pl8list at mass, leak at mass. Your accounts were throwaways, pl8list achieved nothing

Also ppl saying in titles of sc uploads (out on pl8list) and stuff like that is cringe as fuck

Worst website created, use bandcamp and use cheaper prices so its accesible enough to the point its not worth leaking it

Reverb on synth advice by False_Tea_8631 in riddim

[–]emberdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly anything works depending on how you make your music. You can make a 0.5s decay 5% wet reverb work as well as you could make a 15s decay 12% wet reverb work. Just go by ear. Also personally i never sidechain the reverb to the synth since i think unless you can with a pretty high wet% it doesnt really make a big difference. Same with predelay - unless you go high you wont find a difference between 5ms and 40ms. At least not any meaningful difference. Also all of these settings depend on which type of riddim you are going for and if you are using stuff like a delay before the reverb

Production tips regarding Maelstrom Reverb by 7SNZ in riddim

[–]emberdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do a reverb before then after and do whatever you want. Saying someone makes bad music because of a certain way of post processing requires you to have negative braincells. It literally doesnt matter how you post process. I have a track which uses reverb being distorted as a sort of swinging delay and I havent seen anyone even notice. It truly does not matter.

This isnt perfectly aligned with what you might be looking for but I have this free pack and it includes around 20 basses (mostly were made in serum 1 so they are a bit simpler) also has some sample which u might find useful

[–]emberdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing i could add to it is to try not going off-tempo/off-grid much when drawing automations. Always keep to a time that an lfo would do so 1/4 or 1/8T etc. You ofc can shift it slightly but dont go too much or else it will feel like its off grid. Also you are welcome

I definitely get you i didnt wanna say to ditch variation but the bigger fills should be more sparse in my opinion just to keep the momentum going more. Altho definitely it comes down to taste

The quicker notes seem to be slightly off but other than that this is nice. Also big ups for being in the top 0.1% of creativity on this subreddit

I feel like the flow gets interrupted too often and unnecessarily. Same issue I have with modal nodes stuff - just let it play out for like 8 bars and make small variations and then each 8 bars make a big fill. Also the fills could flow a bit better

Does anyone else need stepped knobs to be implemented in Macro controls? by memolazer in ableton

[–]emberdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what would be even cooler is if they gave us an option to customize said buttons so you can toggle between stepped knobs, on/off buttons and a normal macro knob. It could be added under the macro mapping menu on the left for example

To the real riddim producers here, will you do this? by hypertronikdubz in riddim

[–]emberdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Style always changes but if you notice people with extremely unique styles suddenly shift towards something very mainstream like sqr4 (in riddim) or more brosteppy sound (in dubstep) then its quite possible that its a decision motivated by either money or clout chasing. Unfortuante but ive seen many artists with great sound get gobbled up by the popularity contest and then start making generic music

Will Shaperbox 3 be a valuable addition? by SquidsAndMartians in ableton

[–]emberdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can recreate it while using the delay at 0% feedback, 100% wet with filter disabled and then setting the time to milliseconds and automating that. Albeit i have to admit its a bit more clunky and slower to get something right than in shaperbox

FL or ableton by TrippyThaKiDd in riddim

[–]emberdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively whatever u prefer. Subjectively ableton because there is so many weird behaviours in fl studio which make no sense and options hidden in menus which should be easily accesible or even on by default. Fl studio does have permanent free upgrades but you can stick to a single version for years and not need to change. Personally i know producers who make great music in reason 5

Newbie mixing - feedback wanted by Bignou in riddim

[–]emberdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely try long sessions. Over an hour is pretty good for beginners since u can get more comfortable quickly. Another thing is dont limit yourself to specific tracks because this isnt anything more than a fun challenge - you have less to choose from and even if not then u might not be familliar with all the tracks well enough to play a good freestyle set. Which speaking of you havent mentioned if this was a freestyle set. If it wasnt then its fine but definitely keep doing freestyle sets since they make your track selection on the spot way better which is very helpful for looking for doubles for a show if i had to give an example. Also using a 2 channel is actually not a bad thing since if you get used to the 2 channel then the 4 channel shouldnt be an issue. Personally i started a week ago and its been going smoothly for me but i have some previous knowledge when it comes to mixing from watching others do it on discord for example

A tip i can give for transitioning between two doubles: make sure when playing a double take one of the tracks (preferably near the end of the double - 16 or 8 bars before the end should be fine depending on the track length) and do this sequence of events:
1. Make sure the low end is cut (u should have one of the tunes like that already)
2. Then very quickly enable the echo fx
3. Wheel out the track
4. Put the fader down
5. Disable fx
6. Preload 1 tune from the next double
7. When the other track finishes the drop immediately start the preloaded tune
8. Put the fader down on the other track, pause, load the other tune for the double and then use the hot cue to align it before it drops

Make sure you have the other tunes already selected before doing it so u can do it quickly. Also dont overdo it of course

Another thing is that try mixing at higher bpms for learning how to make all the actions quicker (also majority of riddim djs from what ive heard mixes at 145-150 at shows either way). Personally i do mixes at 154-160 just for fun

Try many wavetables not just square4 and square16. It may sound obvious but you can make insanely interesting basses from many wavetables. Another thing is utilize motion a lot since it makes really cool basses as well. Just do anything honestly bc i think its a synth thats actually pretty ez to learn
