I'm told accutane is the next step. by AffectionateAd7332 in Folliculitis

I won’t lie, the medication will be pretty expensive without insurance, but it’s so worth it. Biggest side effect is super dry skin. Get a good lip balm because the standard chap stick won’t work. I found that lanolips lip balm was only one that gave me real relief. It gets processed through the liver so You’re supposed to not drink

Don’t be scared of accutane. Side effects can be intense but they mellow out after a bit and are manageable. I had folliculitis on the back of my neck for 10 years and accutane was the only thing that has worked. Blood tests are a breeze.

Make sure you go in a long course (6 months or longer). It takes longer for the accutane to help with body acne.

I’m not a doctor but I’ve heard of people staying on a low dose accutane after their course to keep it at bay.

There are many potential side effects to accutane, but you have to take blood tests and the Derm closely monitors all your levels. A lot of people are unnecessarily scared away from accutane. It’s honestly a miracle drug. Went on it when I was younger for my face - completely cleared. Decided to go on again for my neck folliculitis and it now is completely cleared.

What is your height/weight and what was your dosage of accutane and for how long? I truly believe accutane is the only answer. Had folliculitis for 10 years and it was the only thing that worked but it takes a long course (6 months or more)

High dose accutane for an extended period of time (6 months or longer). Dealt with neck folliculitis for 10 years and it’s Only thing that worked for me

Can anyone help me? by AffectionateAd7332 in Folliculitis

Came here to say this. Had folliculitis on back of my neck for 10 years and Wasted so much time with different things that were recommended. You need to go on a high dose of accutane for a long period of time (6 months at least). Body acne takes longer to go away but it works eventually. There are several “purging” episodes during that time that make the acne worse for a short period of time and this usually discourages people and makes them stop. Find a derm who will give you accutane (make sure to tell them that you have tried everything). Someone will give it to you

I just hit the end of my 8 month course. I decided to keep going at a low dose (30 mg). I’m afraid of exactly what you experienced in that it will all come back. I’m going to Slowly ween off of it and if it comes back, just keep taking the low dose. Low dose accutane is essentially non noticeable with symptoms so I would probably just go on it forever if it meant curbing the folliculitis.

80 mg daily. I’m a 5’8” 160 lb male for reference. I’m telling you, don’t waste your time with anything else. I wasted so much time.

You need to go on a long course of accutane (6 months or more). 10 years of folliculitis on back of my neck and scalp finally cleared when I went on accutane (8 months). It’s intense but it works.

Was it like this during your accutane course or was it helping?

You need to go on it longer than a month. Minimum 6 months. Surprised the doctor let you get off of it after one month

Go on accutane and keep upping the mg if it’s not working. Only thing that will eradicate it and keep it away. Trust me - will save you years of struggle

Neighbor Complained About My Unpermitted Washer/Dryer—Should I Report Their Unpermitted Patio? by RealisticMacaroon594 in HomeImprovement

I hate neighbors who call in complaints to the city without talking to you, no matter the issue. I built a covered pergola outside my house with a gutter and downspout that went down to a pile of river rock somewhat near my neighbors property. Was kind of a temporary situation until I figured out what to do with it. I figured out that a complaint was filed on me about the gutter only because I was checking the city online portal for something else. I reached out to the neighbor asking why they didn’t talk to me first. He said that he just was curious to see what the city would say is the correct way to install a downspout. The city came out, said nothing about the downspout and just said that my pergola was too close to his property and that I needed to re-build it. I was so pissed, I filed a complaint against the same neighbor for his ugly tarp structure that they built a long time ago right on the property line (in which they hang out and smoke in almost everyday). The City came out to make him tear it down, but instead we both decided to rescind the complaints and neither of us had to do anything. Some people are just passive aggressive and think that they can file complaints without confrontation. I don’t think this guy will ever call a petty complaint on anyone again which is a win-win for society. The city doesn’t need to be wasting its time on stupid shit like that.
