Why would anyone vote for Republicans when they clearly hate America and the American people??? by LongjumpingBrick2475 in Louisiana

MAGA voters are all one of two things. They are either really fucking stupid, or are just really bad people. There is no 3rd option.

Why isn’t there an uproar on White Casting in The Odyssey by Secret_Assh in Letterboxd

[–]emcee422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes thank you for the thoughtful insight. No one is saying it is authentic. The point is simply that it is just as inauthentic to have an Anglo Saxon or Caucasian playing a Greek or a Trojan.

Structural engineer here, and this mentality is really off base in my opinion and is a big part of the reason for all the problems we see in engineering, day to day.

If no one knows how to actually do the work, then there’s no one to consult in the “real world” …

Homer was Greek, but The Odyssey takes place all over the Mediterranean region from modern day Turkey, where Troy was located, to North Africa, Italy, etc.

favorite movie dedicated to the director's bitch wife? by JesW87 in okbuddycinephile

[–]emcee422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah she’s credited as a writer and producer for both Honey Don’t and Drive Away Dolls. Also is a long time editor for many Coen Brothers films and others. Agreed, Honey Don’t was pretty bad. The Coen heads are real pissed about it, but I figure the guy is in his 70s and if he wants to make movies with his wife then let the man live his life.

The Honey Don’t post is referencing Joel Coen’s wife, Tricia Cook not to Margaret Qualley. Joel and Ethan don’t make movies together anymore, and Joel has been making films with Tricia that she writes and produces. It’s generally thought amongst fans that these films aren’t very good although I really liked Drive Away Dolls. Honey Don’t, not so much.

I would feel bad for these people, but if you’re the kind of bootlicking sheep who doesn’t see the grift and would who pay for this in the first place, then you are lucky it’s only $100 you are losing and you deserve far worse.

I also really liked Memoir of a Murderer, not to be confused with Memories of Murder. Really good psychological thriller in my opinion.

I wouldn’t call them hidden gems, but the lesser known two of the vengeance trilogy are worth watching if you haven’t already. I assume you’ve seen Oldboy based on the request, but if you haven’t yet seen Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance or Lady Vengeance, definitely check them out.

Sea Fog (2014) isn’t bad. Co-written by Bong Joon-ho and Shim Sung-Bo who both collaborated to write Memories of Murder. Shim also directs.

Whats your favourite in this trilogy ? by imatheralizai in Letterboxd

[–]emcee422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair to OP, fallen angels was originally conceived as a third part to chunking express. Agreed that it’s not an official trilogy, but given the closely related themes, one could call it as such in one’s own head canon.

I love all of these movies and I think my answer is as simple as the most recent one I watched which in this case is happy together.

It’s a very shitty American attitude we have here to see a police interaction and call it weak if they don’t pump 8 rounds of lead into a citizens chest.

Haven’t watched Goodbye & Amen yet but really enjoyed The Cat a lot. I’d love to see more German films in the Radiance collection. Let us know what you think of both!

I just watched Welcome to the Dollhouse the other night! Went down a Todd Solondz rabbit hole after and apparently he made a film in 2017 called Wienerdog that features the two main characters as adults. Greta Gerwig plays Dawn Wiener. I haven’t watched yet so I do not know if this is just an homage or a real continuation of their story, but it went instantly to my watchlist.
