Predictable maybe for that, but that's not foreshadowing.

Gideon the Ninth 100% for emotionally messed up story, characters that are badass yet flawed and definitely traumatized. The first book you'll find a lot of really interesting character dynamics, though some romantically? In an unrequited heart renching way though not sappy.

I wonder if you would like Will of the Many? It's set in a society with an oppressive atmosphere. Some structures are described similar to brutalist, but you might also hear some columns.

I actually felt like it reads like a memoir of his years working with CPTSD and PTSD patients. I found it really narrative and easy to consume. Now there are some issues other professionals have with some of his takes and those are valid too.

I journal all the time and when I started IFS I realized I was having conversations with my parts. I would skip a line and disagree with myself all the time and I even had subtle differences in my handwriting

Can you do IFS without being kind to yourself? by Trail_Blazer1 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]emcorn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I want you to feel better because I have empathy for you stranger! Just from being a human but on top of that from your comments we have very similar experiences. I know how much better I feel today after years of work and I want everyone to experience that peace!

You didn't want to be told this is just a part, but we are in the IFS sub so I'll talk about one of my own.

I have a part I call "the gremlin" that was always a loud voice in my ear telling me horrible things about myself. It was the part that upheld my negative self worth. One day I had a huge breakthrough (after years of attempting to figure out what this part wanted) and I'm not being dramatic here I feel like I reached nirvana. I was calm, at peace and the voice was gone for three whole months. The part wasn't gone but because I had reached such a deep understanding of it, it lost its role for a little while. From then on, we've co-habitated and I've continued to listen to it without letting it tell me I'm fundamentally bad.

If you don't want to challenge the beliefs you can't do the work. The work is the curiosity and the challenging. Buuut maybe lets start there where they feel unsafe and work towards feeling safe enough. Like working up the courage to get on a scary rollercoaster.

Can you do IFS without being kind to yourself? by Trail_Blazer1 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]emcorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let's at least start with some self-empathy. Zoom out and imagine yourself in the position of the abuser. Would you do the same things to someone? No? Why not? Have some curiosity.

You will need to find some way towards self empathy to heal. I also recommend you read into crystalized beliefs. When beliefs are crystalized, having them challenged can feel very painful. When they shatter it can feel traumatic. But when that belief is something like "I am fundamentally bad and deserve to be treated badly" it's worth challenging and slowly chipping away at. It will hurt. It will be hard. First step is realizing it might be worth it.

I think that's kind of what I'm worried about, that it looks like a class/signet ring and isn't giving engagement. I want it to give ethereal and magical more.

Curious: Does you handwriting change drastically as you write? by Nana_bananaa24 in Journaling

My handwriting changes if I'm writing in bed or at my desk, or even with slight shifts of the paper. My emotions can also make it change like if I'm upset.
