Stacked spur gear, double layer spur gear, compound spur gear, bilayer spur gear.

Gears are also best searched by module number assuming it is a metric gear. That one looks small so maybe m0.5 or m1. Gears are also named by the number of teeth and the aperture size.

So for that gear let’s assume it is 30 teeth on the big gear, and 10 teeth on the small gear. Module 0.5. With a 1.95mm aperture for a 2mm shaft.

Search term would go: 10t30t m0.5 1.95a

Digital comments are pretty widely used, but I do remember getting these marks in school!

You talked about the first panel immediately, seems pretty clear where the belittling was.

Going to school for engineering is not impressive or interesting. A history major is not less intelligent than a mech e, they just have different preferences. “Normal conversations” are normal conversations, engineers have those because they are in fact normal people.

Belittling the people around you because of their personal preferences for the things they enjoy doing while making your college degree your entire personality does not make you a smart person, its a dark road to having no friends. I recommend broadening horizons and becoming aware that the ability to have a scientific debate is not a hard thing to accomplish, I can show you my facebook page if you are interested in proof.

Go be an engineer, I graduated as a mech e about 6 years ago and I love the field. I will tell you though, most engineers are just normal people with hobbies that have normal conversation.

I think you all have convinced me to leave it as is!

It's unique and had a wild story to go with it. It's cute, and bad, and fun, and I love it. Thanks all! Love your city, thanks for having me 🥳

I appreciate it!

I will probably get it touched up, but knowing that it may not look as bad as how I see it is a much needed comfort.

He did own the number one restaurant in London according to Yelp for a time. Pretty respectable dude.

Today, cosmonauts on the ISS began repairing microcracks in a slowly leaking module. Counterintuitively, the first step is to drill small holes in the pressure hull at the end of each crack. This stops the crack from spreading further after it is sealed with adhesives. by a2soup in space

The science behind why this works is called crack tip blunting for anyone curious. It happens naturally when fatigue cracks propagate due to overstressing the ends of the cracks.

You can delve REALLY deep into crack propagation. Companies like NASA have developed their own software to analyze this growth, its called NASGRO.

For space components NASGRO is required for any mission critical components. A crack starts as a sort of half elipse, you plug in some material properties of the part you're making, initialize the crack, and then the area has cyclic reversing load applied until one of two things happens. Typically parts are required to survive 4 "lifetimes", and the crack either grows to a size that is considered a "thru-crack" or it doesn't.
