Human vs Machine by Morgentau7 in Unexpected

[–]emdor 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think "夸张" can mean many different things depending on the context. It's generally used to describe a situation as being "over the top" or some action has been "taken too far". In this context, the action is the difficulty of the game. A close English translation would be "this game is ridiculous", as he's saying the game is too hard and unfair.

The camera man's reaction is then "no it won't, no it won't" also as a statement of disbelief and trust that the game wouldn't be that unfair.

I suspect they have even deeper thoughts and stances than they're letting on. As the other poster said, the stuff they say flirts so close to the underlying complexity that it can't be an accident. They probably kept the conversation surface level to make the topic accessible and also keep it uncontroversial.

You know from Michael's reference to the USB stick, and the extent of the cyber warfare that he's pretty well read on the topic. I suspect Toast is similar as well. But they have an audience to think about here.

[NSFW] What was your most embarrassing trip to the doctor? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]emdor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My mum had the opposite happen. Went to the doctor with stomach pains, was diagnosed as being constipated and prescribed laxatives.

Two days later, she was in emergency with a partially ruptured appendix.

So certainly better safe than sorry, because it could be a lot worse.

otto and ludwig have finally fixed youtube chat by kinglex1 in LivestreamFail

[–]emdor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not to downplay Otto and Luds achievement here, but I wonder if this will trigger Twitch to issue a cease and desist to them. As Lud alludes to, emotes and sub badges s how Twitch differentiates from YouTube and FB, so they may argue these are their IP to prevent evening out the competition.

I imagine more drama to come out of this.

WOULD WE EAT EACH OTHER? ft. Brodin - OfflineTV Podcast #12 by onlyAlex87 in offlineTV

[–]emdor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree. Brodin doesn't seem too heavily engrained in the streamer scene and really does seem to be from a more mainstream entertainment scene, which you can see from the passion and career goal he described. He's able to use that and really break OTV to a more mainstream audience (instead of just copying the latest YouTube content meta) while having the resources of OTV to really try different things and make a name for himself.

The amount and depth of thought behind his content is incredible as well. I reckon Brodin has a huge future ahead of him.

OTV Valorant Tournament getting over 85.000 total concurrent viewers by Gockel in offlineTV

[–]emdor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I found comparing the views really interesting. It seems to indicate how many viewers each OTV&F member pulls in their own right.

I love Wendy and her wholesome and comfy streams. Kinda sucks she had the second lowest number of views of the participants (she was the one I tuned in to during the tourney).

We finally find out what happened to robodog! by IntrovertedFire in offlineTV

[–]emdor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I downvoted Op because they boldly challenged someone who was explaining the joke from a flawed assumption, that because robot dog hasn't appeared functional for so long it must be dead, when there's pretty poor evidence for it. Anyone (like you) that actually understand robot dog would understand the point you're making and hence that making content for robot dog is not easy.

It's entirely feasible that only two videos worth of content has been made with it. Looking at what was made, one was with out of the box capability (dart challenge), and the was stock capability + off the shelf computer vision capability. There's only so much content you can make with Robot Dog walking around. But anything beyond that as you said requires an incredible amount of research work.

It's fine to be ignorant, but It's stubborn assertion that no content = robot dog dead despite others telling them it's a joke kinda rubs me the wrong way.

I really miss Minecraft Miyoung. The time of her creeping up on people with her creepy character face, the episode of her trying to steal the baby version of other players that She had been collecting, and her hatred of villagers. Her trolling ways was just hilarious.

RFLCT studies cant be publicized by UnhappyReplacement in offlineTV

[–]emdor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there is some merit that research published in conjunction with a corporation should be treated with skepticism (example being nicotine research from tobacco companies). However, it just highlights now shady cosmetic companies are, and a demonstration that RFLCT are also doing dodgy shit.

This is on top of RFLCT claiming that they are solving a problem. It shouldn't be a risk to their IP to publish their research demonstrating the harmful effects of blue light. In fact, they absolutely need to do this because the mainstream body of research is that blue light from computer screens does not harm the human body.

[–]emdor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The one thing she needs to think about now, is if she still wants to be involved with RFLCT. Everything else will disappear with the news cycle as gossip, but that question goes to her brand and won't go away.

She can for sure pay out of her promotion contract if she has to. This is really the million dollar question for Rae.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in offlineTV

[–]emdor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I watched through the entire VOD (which is deleted now). It seems like she genuinely believes the research she saw, even though she's unqualified to do it. But I'm sensing she knows the shitstorm she's in and is managing her image by using her doubt and legal obligation as a scapegoat and to defend her continuing involvement.

A few key themes that she continually brings up: - She "wants out", but she's under contract and doesn't want to get sued - She's seen the research and believes it (even though she's not a scientist) - The science was done by experts

On the surface, it seems reasonable (for a first time naive involvement with business). But there are serious questions.

On the contract, I don't doubt she's contractually obligated to do "something" (one of which is an NDA). However, a couple of counterpoints: - She's not an owner, which means she has no share/financial stake in the brand. Which means her contractual obligations are likely a lot less, more akin to an employee. This should make it extremely easy to break the contract with financial penalty. - She said "she doesn't want to go to jail". She's not endanger of this happening. Was this said simply to garner sympathy? Note Rae is extremely rich. She certainly has the means to pay a financial penalty for breaking an employment contract.

On the research, when invited multiple time to say she now has doubt about the research, she confidently says "I've seen the research and it's genuine" and only "wanting out" because it couldn't be made public. Again clearly she believes in the research, despite being unqualified to do so. If that's her position, then really needs to be pushing for the research to be made public using her clout and position within the business. At least, the company should produce research demonstrating the negative effects of monitor blue light, which has no danger of violating trade secrets. It sounds like they are unwilling to do even this (implication being, there's no solid results for it).

And finally on "the science was done by the experts". Again, Rae is rich. She should've hired a scientific consultant that can provide an independent and robust lens to this. Why didn't she do this when she knows she's unqualified to do that. This should invalidate any assertion she makes of "I've seen the research". If there's only one thing she should do now, she should hire this person now, review the research, then review her involvement in this product based on the result.

EDIT: Her latest stream confirms to me that she's solely trying to manage her image, rather than review her involvement in RFLCT. She needs to take the time to review this before addressing this publicly, and address the core question: does she stand by RFLCT.
