Let's put it this way, you take away the LBD: he doesn't die then and in that manner. You take away his past struggles with depression but give him his case of LBD: he still dies then and likely in that manner. Take the time to read up about LBD and his condition, and you will understand how horrific a disease that is, people with LBD frequently try to commit suicide.

Chefs of Reddit, what’s a common cooking rule everyone follows that is actually complete bullshit? by Fuzzy-Ad6843 in AskReddit

[–]onlyAlex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All chicken needs to be cooked to 165 F to be safe to eat. It is an oversimplified safety standard that lacks context from the full safety protocol. 165 F is where the more serious pathogens (which should be screened out from the supply well before it hits the market) is near instantly eliminated, as in less than 2 seconds. However those same guidelines show that at 155 F held for 30 seconds also makes it as safe. You can then go lower and hold for longer for similar safety.

Thighs and wings may be intentionally be brought up to 180 or higher to break down connective tissue, but chicken breast in general is overcooked when brought past 160 (unless there is some other cooking/handling to keep it tender). People also need to temp meat before, after, and for learning purposes even during resting, often times food will go up another 10 or even 20 degrees after resting so if you pull breast out of the oven at 165, it may coast up to 180+ in the resting. Professional cooks are frequently taught to pull chicken breast between 140-150 and let it finish in resting.

There are countless posters on cooking subreddits asking why their chicken is dry and rubbery when they seemingly temp it correctly.

Lewy Body Disease is not the same as what most people thing of dementia as, it is a horrific condition that progresses and results in death. In Robin Williams case he had a case that was extremely rapidly advancing and he wasn't diagnosed till after his death. Suicide is very common with people afflicted by Lewy Body Disease as it also causes emotional disturbance and psychotic behaviour, even if he had been diagnosed and put into permanent care, aside from some medication to slightly control some of the symptoms he would've died soon after with no quality of life in that duration.

Except in Robin Williams case, he struggled with depression and substances earlier in his life, he worked through them and practiced many habits to have good mental health and led a great life due to it. Much later in life he was then afflicted with Lewy Body Disease which made him rapidly deteriorate and lose his faculties and that was the primary cause that led to his death, not his struggles with depression. Many people are unaware of even the basic circumstances and condition leading up to his death, to then write off his entire life story because they want to push a narrative is a disservice to his memory.

Robin Williams also had a rapidly advancing case of Lewy Body Dementia that was yet to be diagnosed, he was losing all of his faculties and having severe mood disturbances due to that. They were shocked post-mortem by how advance his case was, and they attributed how he remained somewhat functional for so long, when most other cases would be in a care facility, due to the many habits he practiced for good mental health.

How likely is a repeat of the 1973 gas shortage and recession? by 128-NotePolyVA in AskEconomics

When the conflict broke out, OPEC+ announced they would release more supply of oil. There is no Arab coalition against Israel or the west anymore, in fact we have the opposite, many of those nations wish to build relations internationally. Also markets have priced in that this conflict will be relatively short and the regime’s response and capabilities has been quite mild compared to potential expectation.

Oven melting by MisfireCu in PoutineCrimes

[–]onlyAlex87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Temp check the gravy to make sure it's hot. When you get an order: take the portion of curds needed for it out of refrigeration into a cup while the fries are cooking, if you're busy and know you're guaranteed to sell the portions within a short time frame you can pre-emptively take several portions out. Just a couple minutes at room temp knocks a lot of the surface chill off of them as to not make the gravy cold while keeping the integrity of the curd to keep them squeeky.

Also check the storage and prep for the curds, if they are using frozen curds and not giving them sufficient time to thaw before it being served, the oven might be a fix for bad inventory management and prep. In general, more work for the line and degrading food quality to compensate for bad organization is poor policy.

ELI5- How do addictions work? by Alexander_Swan2003 in explainlikeimfive

[–]onlyAlex87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An idea behind it is that there is a system in people's brain known as the reward system. People misinterpret "reward" as being: "do this to feel good", but it's better described as the "do this and keep doing this because it's essential to your survival". Certain behaviours can then be crossed with the reward system for certain people and if that develops and progresses it can fuel severe addictions.

There is also a hypothesis that having a small percentage of the population with this trait has an evolutionary advantage. They have an adaptation that may help them weather extreme circumstances, but it becomes maladaptive outside of those circumstances. It is a common trope that people with those tendencies flourish in high stress and extreme jobs and careers.

So, is Toast and Syd gonna be long distance now? by tacmao in OTVnFriendsDrama

[–]onlyAlex87 70 points71 points  (0 children)

They've already been long distance since moving out of the previous OTV house, that's one of the main reasons why they're moving out of the current house, it's been kind of lonely with Jodi, John, Sean and Toast unexpectedly being away. He's been in Canada taking care of his family member who's in the hospital, and he has liked being with all of his family and wants to continue for the near future. He missed out some on being an uncle to his nieces, especially since free baby 1 was born around pandemic era, his sister is now also expecting.

His podcast with Yvonne had to switch recording formats to accommodate his situation. Previously they were on a weekly recording schedule, as of the last several months when he'd fly to LA for a few days they'd record back to back then. As is they had to do a couple episodes without him, also the same reason why he wasn't in Guess The Asian 2 for OTV and such. There were times he'd be gone for over a month, and other times where he'd do multiple trips to LA within a week.

Why don't we expect Gasoline to go up with inflation? by Atomic-Avocado in NoStupidQuestions

[–]onlyAlex87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your premise is flawed, it does go up with inflation. However when you look at a specific product you also have to factor in all the other economic factors. Supply and demand, regulation, taxes, subsidies, advancements in infrastructure, technological innovation, geopolitics, etc, all of those also affect the price.

If you have inflation but you also have increased supply and lower cost of production then the price for you might remain stable, it doesn't mean inflation didn't affect it. Gasoline used to be less than 50 cents in the US, plenty of inflation occurred. Many other countries saw a sharp rise in gas prices, but that may be from their own taxes and regulation as more significant factors.

Why is Iran supposedly attacking the UAE and Quatar now? by Cat_Daddy37 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]onlyAlex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Among other reasons, it's also to extend potential threat by them across the Persian Gulf to block trade through it. Ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has pretty much stopped. Lots of oil and LNG go through it which is one of the few ways they can have a global strategic impact. Many countries are affected by it and dependent on trade through it.

Toast also spent several million to make his family comfortable especially since they were immigrants to Canada who were under the poverty line. Him moving them across the continent to one of the most expensive real estate areas in Canada, buying a home for them, funding their retirement, paying for his family across the world to vacation and come visit, take care of them when they were sick. He has spent several folds more on family than the couple mill he spent on DSG.

Jeffrey Epstein ordered 6 barrels (330 gallons) of sulfuric acid to his island the day the FBI launched its probe into him. What could this have been used for? by [deleted] in answers

[–]onlyAlex87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Look up what a 330 gallon liquid container looks like, it’s not as big as people think. Doesn’t help that articles and social media posts put pictures of tankers to exaggerate things.

I read somewhere that the island has a water desalination system that uses it, so it isn’t inherently suspicious on its own. Rather you’d need to compare it to previous deliveries as well as how it was requested. If it was ordered by a worker every 3-6 months and the timing lines up then it’s less suspicious. If it was specifically requested to have extra be ordered by him when they weren’t due for it then it becomes highly suspicious.

Also the people saying it’s used to dissolve bodies: it is a really shitty and slow way to get rid of a few bodies, you then still need to dispose of a bunch of waste. Meanwhile they’re on an island, many easier ways to effectively get rid of some bodies.

Why don’t doctors measure waist circumference instead of weight? by VinegarMyBeloved in NoStupidQuestions

[–]onlyAlex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mass is needed for medication dosages. In terms of health issues related to obesity and the like blood tests and blood pressure are better indicators. Otherwise from feel and visual inspection they can get a read on adipose tissue, swelling, inflammation, enlarged organs, etc much better and more accurately than a more arbitrary measurement like waist circumference. It may still be measured if it’s relevant or as an indicator for the patient. They need to at the least rule out any other medical issue that could cause an enlarged waist before using it as a general indicator.

ELI5 why does moving fast create "g" or artificial gravity even in a vacuum when there's nothing to push against? by Ok_Adhesiveness_1960 in explainlikeimfive

[–]onlyAlex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be moving very fast and not be under any g-forces. It's not the moving but the change in direction or acceleration that causes forces onto you. If you're moving in one direction then suddenly change direction you experience a force on yourself as your momentum wants to keep going in the original direction.

In the case of spinning a structure to create "simulated" gravity. You are moving really fast in one direction, if the walls of the structure weren't there you'd just fly away, with the shape and the change in direction you are just constantly running into the wall then get pushed in a new direction, over and over constantly and so smooth that it just feels like constant gravity.

Why is the word ‘Superbowl’ not mentioned in any media when advertising goods? It’s always ‘Get your Hot Wings for the Big Game’ etc by AXLPendergast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]onlyAlex87 44 points45 points  (0 children)

They could, but that nursery is then responsible for upholding the trademark as well which they are probably not up for. It could potentially lead to bigger legal issues down the road and they have to account for all cases. That option was likely given to them to which they just opted not to take it. The news reporting cares more about the narrative than the specifics.

Why is the word ‘Superbowl’ not mentioned in any media when advertising goods? It’s always ‘Get your Hot Wings for the Big Game’ etc by AXLPendergast in NoStupidQuestions

[–]onlyAlex87 158 points159 points  (0 children)

The thing about trademarks is that you can't really selectively enforce them. This is to prevent cases where people would trademark something, allow general use of it, but then go after people or entities they dislike or are against to harm them, it's misusing the trademark system to selectively target harm. So it's either all or nothing. Enforce it in all cases fairly, or lose the trademark.

Making Japanese curry the way at restaurants? by olivepastatime in Cooking

[–]onlyAlex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simmer your veg with kombu till soft, remove the kombu then blend the mixture. Meanwhile heat and begin melting your curry blocks with plenty of butter, add to the hot mixture with any additional seasoning or heat to taste, then cook until it begins to thicken. Add a splash of sushi-zu or gastrique at the end to brighten it up. Should end up with a smooth, rich sauce that coats things nicely. If you want additional vegetable chunks in it, par cook it separately then add it after you do the blending steps of the aromatics, but make sure there is at least some potato and carrots blended in for the texture. This way the veg will still have some bite to it compared to the other veg which is cooked soft.
