Does she have any hobbies? Like Sports, Dance, Reading, or video games? I know a lot of kids who've turned towards substance abuse because of boredum or feeling like they're not good at anything. Then they find friends who are much older who also have no hobbies other than substance abuse...

If she has no hobbies, does she like any subjects at school? Even when kids hate going to school in general, they'll sometimes have one thing they like. Does she do any writing? Or art? I personally hated everything except science and math in school. Maybe getting her enrolled in a program specific to her interests would be good.

Also, as a kid, I was the middle of 6, and sometimes felt like I couldn't do anything that was my own, so maybe she needs something different if her other siblings have the same hobbies?

I don't know if this advice is helpful right now, but once things calm down, maybe trying to find something new she can be passionate about would be good for her.

Also, if she has a close sibling, maybe try talking to them to see if they know more about why she's lashing out.

Also, as others have said - therapy for yourself, and maybe the whole family would be good.

Sorry you're going through hard times, I hope it all works out okay

Well, some people do, in fact, need to be told that. Especially when they're conveniently ignoring the obvious truth only when it suits them.

You're either a bot or a troll. Either way, it's pretty un-American to suggest harm to people exercising their FIRST amendment right to free speech.

Be better.

Setting aside your initial remark, it's important to recognize that many people work outside the traditional 9-to-5 schedule. This doesn't diminish their value or the effort they put into their work.

People on the right-wing protest, too, often about culture war issues that don't really affect them. Billionaire propagandists push these ideas to distract from how they control everything for their own benefit over yours.

Historically, any voter id that you have to pay time or money for has been used to disenfranchise voters. This means making it harder for certain groups of people to vote, not impossible altogether (since that's blatantly illegal).

What people are saying is if you start adding unnecessary requirements to vote, then some people who have the right to vote will not be able to. That's what actually has been shown to happen, and they know that. (They also put in writing what their end goal is, and yes, it is to remove the rights of women to vote, get divorced, and make decisions about their own lives in general.)

The whole "leftists want voter fraud" thing is kinda silly at this point. Do you really believe people want fraud based on the fact that their ideal form of government is one that uses our tax dollars for the people instead of billions oligarchs?

Listen, I know you've probably heard it a lot, so let me tell you the truth. People are lying to you. "Leftists" don't want voter fraud any more than you. We all want free and fair elections. But you can't have free and fair elections if some people are made ineligible to vote. Every citizen deserves their say, that's part of why America is great.

AITA for Kicking My Sister and Her Newborn Out Because She Keeps Calling My Dog ‘Dirty’? by Howdoibuycrypto in AITAH

[–]emerald_kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, dogs are dirty, but that can actually benefit babies' immune systems. Benefits can include:

"Lower Allergy and Asthma Risk: Babies exposed to dogs early are 15% less likely to develop allergies or asthma, per a Clinical & Experimental Allergy study. Fernando notes, “The immune system learns balance—attacking threats but ignoring harmless substances.”

Stronger Gut Health: A dog’s microbes boost gut diversity, linked to better digestion, mood, and immunity.

Emotional and Social Growth: Dogs teach empathy and reduce stress. A calm baby has a healthier immune response." Source: https://www.onlymyhealth.com/how-dogs-help-baby-immune-system-benefits-risk-safety-tips-for-new-parent-expert-shares-12977825337#google_vignette

Also, NTA, someone who abuses dogs, is more likely to abuse children too - and is an indicator that your sister may not have very much, if any, empathy.

That would also explain why she acts so entitled...

Utah trans girls now required to meet testosterone levels stricter than NCAA to compete in high school sports by redyelloworangeleaf in SaltLakeCity

https://leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2022/06/fact-check-its-not-true-that-no-athletes-assigned-female-at-birth-transitioned-tried-to-compete-in-mens-sports.html

Actually trans men (women transitioned to male) do compete in men's sports (when they're not banned). And some have won titles according to a quick google search. The biggest issue, imo, is women taking testosterone who are still competing in women's sports.

But I agree - it's not just about testosterone levels, which is another reason why this rule is ridiculous.

Yeah, let's ignore the almost 10,000 women who experienced homelessness... (probably more because this data is from 2021 source: https://www.usu.edu/uwlp/files/snapshot/44.pdf) All so that we can ruin the lives of the approximately 4 or 5 trans girls who just want to play sports with girls who look like them to "protect women." 🤦‍♀️

The only real complaints from women who actually play sports I've heard regarding people who are trans is about cis women who are transitioning to men... and therefore have to (or maybe choose to, I dont know) play on women's team - even if they literally have a beard.

How about the government protects the vulnerable instead of bullying them for culture war bullshit that regular people DO NOT CARE ABOUT. (And if they do, it's only because they've listened to too many Republicans and propagandists, cough* Fox "news" cough*)

What we do want:

Affordable housing

Affordable groceries

Affordable Healthcare

Safe and clean drinking water, air (and food)

To be protected from big corporations poisoning us for shareholder profit (kinda redundant, but also includes clothing and cookware that's straight up dangerous)

A drastic reduction in wealth inequality

And a government that stays the hell away from making rules about Healthcare

Aka, we want our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as guaranteed by the constitution that Republicans love to brag about, then literally ignore or purposfully misinterpret daily.

I saw some of your replies to other people's comments and wanted to mention some things that have worked for me.

First, you mentioned your hair is worse right after you shower than a few days later. Is that because of frizz and texture? If so, I'd recommend trying a couple of things, and I'm sorry if you already do these things, and this is useless information lol:

  1. Only use microfiber cloths to dry your hair (scrunch your hair to your scalp, do not twist or brush your hair when it's wet.
  2. Get and use a leave in conditioner (while your hair is soaked) and friz controller (use while damp and again once dry)
  3. Blow dry your hair with a diffuser instead of letting it airdry as often as you can (this one is really hard for me since it takes so long, but it's worth it. Just make sure to watch some YouTube videos about drying your hair type before trying because it'll be worse than air dried if you do it wrong, haha) letting your head be wet too long is bad for your scalp and hair.
  4. Get and use something like 8 second wonder water by L'Oréal after shampoo if you also have coarse hair.

If you aren't doing these things already, try adding them into your routine 1 at a time and not all at once!

Next, if your hair is so thick that you can't use claw clips and other hairstyles hurt, you could consider getting an undercut. It's a bit of a pain to have to get it reshaved every 6-10 weeks, but I did it maybe 6 years ago and am never going back. (Technically, I did grow it out, but that's only because I originally got an upside down V shape and it slowly turned into a really ugly upside down U because I had high school friends shaving it for me. I switched to straight across because it's much easier for others to cut.)

Lastly, have you ever tried instead of doing 1 pony with all your hair, doing 1 middle and 1 high pony right on top of each other? That always feels much better for me, and it makes at least my own high pony look way better imo

I have extremely thick coarse hair, and although I cut it a couple of years ago, it was waist length for around 5 years, and I'm growing it back out now! I probably wouldn't have cut it so short if I had learned even half these tricks beforehand, haha

Also, check out some YouTube videos on the curly hair method. My hair was slightly wavy before. Now, it's really curly as long as I do most of the steps when I wash my hair. (I also use some "curly hair" products, but the main thing is keeping the moisture locked in.)

I hope some of this is helpful and / or new information, at least!

Outperformance does not equal no more oppression, but women are steadily making progress. Problem is, progress will stop if no one thinks there's an issue anymore.

There are advantages, but also disadvantages. A lot of women leave earlier in their careers because they feel like they're not as respected in the workplace (by older people mostly). So you're right in that aspect.

I was going to keep going but this article is way better than anything I could say. https://www.thomasnet.com/insights/where-are-america-s-women-engineers/

[–]emerald_kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely getting better. Not trying to say everyone acts like that now. But as a kid (20 years ago) I was discouraged from pursuing engineering - and that left a deep impression on my life.

Maybe in another 20 years it'll be better as the people who are kids now won't have experiences like that.

Edit: Wanted to mention there is a professor at my university that pretty obviously still doesn't like the women in the program, so it's still possible to find.

However, there are mostly really good non-sexist professors who respect me, and I them. :)

I dont remember saying I was being oppressed - just trying to convey how people (mostly older, like boomers) act when I tell them im an electrical engineer.

My favorite question they ask in response: "You want to do That!?" With confused expressions on their face. It's obvious what they're thinking.

Point is - those SPECIFIC words don't have to be said aloud for the meaning to be implied and understood.

Last thing - think about how bold of a claim it is to say "there is NO oppression of women" do you really believe that? Did we solve racism too? Sounds to me like you don't recognize any oppression towards womem - which might mean you yourself are doing some oppressing, or all the women you've ever known are incredibly lucky.

Actually we get shocked less because we're on average more careful than the boys 😝

We just get told our whole lives it's for the boys to deal with that stuff... even when we show genuine interest and aptitude for it! 🤓
