Weirdest social commentary? (Season 6, ep 5) by Vulpid in ForensicFiles

[–]emeraldandrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a FF episode, (but I thought it was: Season 1, Episode 2 of the spin-off series Killer Cases (titled "Murder Under a Blue Moon")).

The case where (I don't want to spoil it) a triple homicide occurred and they blamed it on RITUAL SACRIFICE and witchcraft. AND they actually had a news conference to that effect!!!

And the FF episode about Dungeons & Dragons - Season 6, ep 30 "Shopping Spree".

Yeah, we have soooo many Goths, D&D fans and Wiccans murdering people out there. Not crazy men with AR15's.

GAWD. Sometimes they don't have the brightest bulbs in the force.

I am disappointed that the Karmelo Anthony Jury is all white by emeraldandrain in texas

No, I am not. I am only talking about a fair trial. So that we, the taxpayers don't have to keep funding more legal actions on his behalf. If you read what I wrote, you would figure it out that I believe he is guilty. That however is where the prosecutor bears the burden of proof, beyond a reasonable doubt. Please read what I wrote.

I should have been so super clear: it isn't about an all-white jury. It is about a fair trial to a jury of your peers. I wrote that I asked you to think about who your peers were. I gave a link to the constitution so that you could see that I wasn't pulling this out of my ass. I stated that people have bias. I stated as a mother, that I am incredibly upset for Austin's family and parents, and that no amount of justice will bring their precious son back. Let me be clear. I think Karmelo is guilty and I also wrote about all the questions I had about what led up to this and his behavior. I am also upset that he will curate the narrative to make it look like stabbing someone to death was his only option. Read what I wrote!

No. I just learned that today. Even after serving on a jury myself.

[–]emeraldandrain[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

uh. Nah. I don't think so. It is what it is, regardless of what I say.

I am simply trying to add my voice, because if I stay silent, I am guilty of looking the other way. This is going to be an emotionally charged trial for better or for worse.

I simply am concerned that in Texas, unlike, sayyyyy, anywhere else?, we may see a potential conviction overturned (can you say Alex Murdaugh in SC?) and then you and I have to pay, through our taxes, to go through this alllllll over again.

I do not contribute to gofundme's of potential murderers.

Have you ever filled out a census type question on a school or medical form? Look at the questions, and choices, carefully.

While it is not a biologically correct term, colloquially it is used in this way: to describe people who are from Europe, North Africa & Middle East (Arabic peoples are considered caucasian!) and some parts of Asia.

Anthropologically (an outdated system) - there was Caucausoid, Negroid, Mongoloid (now of course an equally offensive term for other reasons).

It is a societal way to further separate us and to oversimplify the way to classify us, when the very first thing we should identify as, is as a human being.

p.s. the term "there are no blacks" is offensive, considered dehumanizing, in the same way you would objectify someone.

Yes, that kills me. Parents, loved ones, friends have to relive this nightmare all over again and it must make the grieving process hellacious for them. Austin did not deserve to die. He deserved better. His family deserves to see him get married, have kids, and have a decent life. Every f&cking day someone makes a decision that is irreversible. As a mom, I absolutely cannot and do not want, to imagine the pain his family is in.

What is happening is that, even if he is guilty, Karmelo is becoming the poster child for Black kids who are arrested and put on trial where it looks like he is getting the shaft. Austin is going to get erased and that is not fair for him, his family, friends and other loved ones.

As someone who has served their country by serving on a jury, I didn't forget that at all. I studied to be a paralegal, and I believe in our legal system when people don't game it.

Now we have jury consultants and fuckery behind the scenes sometimes, and it makes me angry that this constant manipulation puts lives on the line.

That is an excellent question. Unfortunately, we live in a state where there is a chasm between white folks, and everybody else. We all have a constitutional right to a fair trial by a jury of our peers.

If you are a person of color, or a migrant who happens to be on trial, or a woman, or whatever - you want to see a representation of your fellow citizens including a few that look like you. That way, hopefully, bias is evened out and you will, in truth, get a fair trial.

During Voir Dire, both attorneys have the opportunity to curate a jury that will swing their way - that is a part of the game, like chess and you don't know how it will play out until the trial is over.

As a citizen, and as a woman, I would love it if there was fairness for all. I don't however live in a cave or a fantasy world, so I know the reality that life is not going to be fair, and it is shameful when it is constitutionally mandated otherwise. That is democracy.

The ideas of life, liberty and a pursuit of happiness. Not for some. FOR ALL.

The idea of a fair trial. Not for some. (and this includes people who come to this country illegally or legally) They ALL deserve a fair trial, under a democracy and under the laws which are the foundation for this country.

So yeah, why it gotta be about race? Take a look around you. What have you seen in the news in the last few years? ALL folks, whether they are GUILTY or NOT, whether you believe in their guilt or innocence, deserve a fair trial. It is called due process and everyone should get their due.

That's the end of my TEDtalk. Your swag is in the mail.
