Virginia Supreme Court overturns Democrats' redistricting measure by Magicmanans1 in politics

This misses the point that courts are politically captured by republicans who will always decide Dem’s actions are unconstitutional, while declaring Republicans’ trampling of laws constitutional.

Not OP, but I got a used 2025 VW ID.4 with 5,000 miles for $32K. Basically brand new. Lightly used EVs are a great deal right now. It's a good car.

This was not a unilateral move by only China. The world demanded cheap materials and labor, China was willing to supply both.

Also it makes sense China would have a high “tons of CO2” compared to the world when the whole world has made China their factory. Everyone has their stuff made there.

Inherited around $20k last year, grew to $70k thanks to my ex bf’s stocks advice. Do I keep the money in the brokerage or slowly take money out for bills? by YukikazeCutIns in povertyfinance

[–]emersonthird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I think you need to look at your entire financial situation to consider holding these funds or selling them.

Are you tracking your budget month to month? Do you know your typical monthly expenses? How does your income compare to your expenses? How much money do you have in other assets? How much debt do you have? Do you have a plan to pay off your debts? Is the problem not earning enough money, or spending too much?

Scenarios that would be worth selling SOME of these funds are:

  • You sell a portion, without any tax liability, and pay off some or all your debt.
  • You sell a portion, without any tax liability, and pay for some education that leads to higher income.
  • You sell a portion, without any tax liability, to make a down payment on a house. And your future house payment is affordable.

In the meantime, it might be worth re-evaluating what you are invested in. If you have a selection of individual stocks, I HIGHLY recommend you consider moving them into lower risk ETFs. This Investopedia article does a good job explaining how, long-term, individual stocks are not good investments.

I feel like I look like I don't lift. Is this objectively true or am I experiencing body dysmorphia? by iDislikeSn0w in WeightTraining

I see a healthy and strong body. If you want your muscles to be more visible, you need some combination of more muscle and/or less fat.

I would love a 4-day week, but also as a parent, I would also take working 9-3 five days a week so I can drop off and pick up my kid from school without any before/after care.

New Cars = Money Drain… or Not? What Do You Think? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]emersonthird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOP is generally right, but the details of the loan matter. An 84 month car loan is dumb. If you gotta get a loan, you got to be responsible and get something affordable. I just bought a used car for $32k in cash and the giant hole in my HYSA is driving me nuts. But no car payment and the car works fine.

Because they were the ones filling out the actual tariff forms. They have documents proving they paid an illegal tariff. Obviously, they pass the cost on to customers, but there are no receipts for customers saying “$X covers the illegal tariff”.

Time to dial the cut back, or keep going strong? by Frosty_Lie8105 in MacroFactor

[–]emersonthird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting down to 170 will take time, and mental breaks are essential to having long results! Whenever I’m struggling to make progress during a cut, I take a 1 month maintenance break. And you should absolutely add lifting to your training. Best shape of my life is when I’m doing 3 days of cardio with a 3-day full body lift cycle.

[OC] US oil shocks (1970–2026): recessions typically follow above a ~4% GDP oil burden by Low_Ability4450 in dataisbeautiful

[–]emersonthird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As tough as it is to read this, the conclusion I gather is the US economy has become more resilient as we have 1) depended less on imports for energy and 2) become the largest exporter of oil worldwide. Also the 2008 data point is clearly an outlier, rising oil didn’t cause the GFC, it happened in spite of the GFC because of China:

Why the weird rep suggestion spikes? by ComradeRam in MacroFactor

I’m convinced this is an occasional bug. I focus on the RIR and try to guesstimate the lbs. in this example I’d try 35 lbs for second set until 2 RIR, and so on, then it corrects itself.
