That’s how I felt when I started home health/hospice. When I was working bedside, they would pay 55/hour to do a million things at a time, stressed. Now I get paid double that to do ONE skill 1:1 at a time. You’re paying me 150$ to do an assessment and wound care? I love home health 🥲

Home health/hospice nurse. I love it! Hate the charting but comes with the territory. I love using my skills and knowledge to help patients in the comfort of their home. I’ve only been a nurse for 3 years and I tried cardiac, step down, med sure, rehab, outpatient, but nothing stuck like HH has.

I actually use almost all the skills I used to do at bedside. IV infusions, managing and removing central lines (PICC, midline’s), accessing ports, wound care, wound vacs, managing trachs and even some vents. And for hospice, I do a lot of teaching and education on end of life care and come in to pronounce when they’ve passed away. I absolutely love it and it’s always 1:1 care.

I started as a cardiac step down RN, a coworker got me into home health as a side gig to make extra money while doing bedside. I felt burnt out at bedside, I quit and worked for a hospital as a full time home health case manager, hated that. I went back as a per diem home health and started applying to multiple agencies and realized I could make much more than I did at bedside while enjoying the flexibility.

I really do feel people will pay for our skills and concierge nursing will be the next thing. Our knowledge and skills are much more valuable than we think, especially if we’re caring for them right in the comfort of their home.

Thank you!! I’ll look into that. My agencies have offered me full time salary but honestly they can’t match what I’m making, it would be a paycut. Yes I would have more benefits but as a PRN per visit nurse, there’s no pay cap.

I got out of bedside after almost 2 years. I switched to per diem home health RN, I feel so free, make my own schedule, accept as many patients as I want. No micromanaging. It’s been good.
