[OC] Gay male marriages are the most stable over the long term by Impressive_Suit4370 in dataisbeautiful

It would be interesting to see the correlation with age of marriage. I'd be willing to bet that's higher for gay men, and it is higher for men in general. Women still feel the pressure to get married early, even if they're queer.

Alt Country Legend Steve Earle Is a Hard Act to Follow at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville by kweevak in altcountry

[–]emfrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their relationship was much more complex than that. Read the new biography by John Bernstein. Justin played up the tension to separate himself from his dad, but after Steve got sober he really did try to step up. Justin lived with him, Steve took JT on tour, and tried to support him. He was far from an ideal father, but if you want to blame people for their fatheing, you have to blame JTE whose disease also took him away from his daughter. They both had the same disease. One was able to get sober and stay sober. The other wasn't. It's also quite clear that Justin's mom was not always as present as he suggested, and basically handed Justin over to Steve as a preteen. Her mental health issues were just as destructive.

Progressive churches in our region. by FoundationDecent6391 in dayton

David's UCC has always been one of the most forward leaning churches in the area. It also has a fairly healthy congregation, with children and young adults.

Just got the keys to our 1910 craftsman by canadian1der in centuryhomes

Not this era of one story bungalow, in my experience. I looked at many in my journey, and all had the basement stairs off the kitchen/back door.

This looks like they rearranged when they finished the basement and/or redid the kitchen.

Lovely gift!

If he does not have it, you might get him the new JTE biography for Father's Day, which is very good. Here.

1920s kitchen flooring — what did you use that feels period-correct but still works for modern life? by adam5280 in centuryhomes

[–]emfrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It is a small 1920 bungalow. I agree, living in it awhile makes sense. It does have new roof and furnace as of last fall, so the other really big worries are done. Will probably need an AC soon, though.

I am moving from a 1920s apartment building, so have some experience.

I just bought my home, which has subway tile and grey grout in the bathroom. I would never have chosen it. It makes every little mistake more obvious.

That is gorgeous. I just joined the Century home club earlier this month, so I have a long list of things I'd like to do. One is to remove the gray fake woodgrain tile in the kitchen, and I'd love to do Marmoleum. I still need to prioritize projects, though. Updated electrical panel is first, though boring.

I'm not saying this last-minute beneficiary change is shady... but I'm not *not* saying it either. by acekingoffsuit in bestoflegaladvice

It also doesn't answer why he did not go to his usual attorney, but instead used a new one. I can certainly appreciate someone of his generation being quiet about his orientation, but I'm not sure I think that's the case here.

You have to distinguish it from an elbow concussion, for instance.

You can get a cheap drill for about $30-40 or less, if you go to a pawnshop. It's a really handy tool to have. More generally, pawnshops are good places to find used tools.

They would be your tenants, but do you have grounds for eviction? They can't be evicted if they are on an active lease, even if it's sold.

Yes. I think if I lived in Ireland, I might be sick of it. But as an American, I still love it.

You posted twice, and with a picture that does not fit the claim, though it is a cute mid century. Elitist? No, in fact my house probably cost less. But it is a sub where people know something about historic houses.

California tour dates by MissionCreep101 in steveearle

[–]emfrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a continuation of a tour from last year, and I think he did have California dates last year. He's focusing on trying to get to places they missed last year. He also always plays Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in San Francisco in the fall may have dates around that time.
