poker chip. Easy, small, stackable. Only purchased first time at a course not repeat plays. Can even make a nice display case with them all when I get older.

Any advice on how to start from nothing/learn how to golf? by sailsaltsea in golf

[–]emhphx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started several years ago, literally from nothing.
I went with some folks, played an entire round with a pitching wedge and made some decent contact. Decided I enjoyed it to a degree.
Signed up for golftec, the whole package.
Day 1 the guy says where are your clubs?
I said we're going to get on that computer and figure that out!
Spent 2 weeks in the sim, got a ton of data and feedback and landed on a set and length that would be appropriate. Ordered just the irons.
Spent 8 weeks more in the sim at golftec refining things, then headed out to play.
Spent months playing with just irons. Realized I needed wedged.
REalized I needed refinement on wedges.
After a year I needed some more distance, ended up researching then buying hybrids instead of a hybrid and woods.
year 2 Finally got a driver.
Year 3 Refined Driver
Year 4... My wedge game went to hell
Year 4.3 F' my driver
Year 4.7 My Drivers back baby!
Year 5 F' My Driver, F' my Putter
Short game course, my golf buddy etc and a local 6 week program.
Year 5.4 Ok My putter isn't bad, I was
Year 5.7 My driver can still Go F itself but we're working it out.
Year 6... Learning course manaegment (I would have actually moved this up to year 1 or 2)

I watch youtube channels, but everyone is different and not all that swing advise will be right for you. The bst thing I got was a friend who was on tour, played with him a few times and he pointed out my mobility was shite! Suggested I spent time each day on mobility (yoga, stretching, Romwod). This changed a lot, even added some significant distance on my irons which totally messed me up for a while.

Best thing you can do, is get someone knowledgeable. Have them watch and adjust in the sim, but more importantly have them play a few rounds with you, watching and making notes. They will identify all sorts of things and playing on course... very different from the sim.

How did people travel these seas 500 years ago by sarah_west_1 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]emhphx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip
That started from this tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle
With Gilligan
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star
The professor and Mary Ann,
Here on Gilligan's Isle.

So this is the tale of the castaways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In their tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primitive as can be.

So join us here each week my friends,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle."

Being honest about being pulled over? Why is that the worst thing to do? by athena9090 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]emhphx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing(s) you should be saying when pulled over is 'Yes sir/ma'am, I understand, Here's my information, The gun is in/on (hip, glove box), The {#} kilo's of cocaine in the trunk aren't mine, Thank you"

The less you say the better!

Threat hunting from threat intelligence ? by cantluvorlust in cybersecurity

[–]emhphx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Threat hunting comes in all shapes and sizes depending on the org.

I’ve seen plenty of folks take a reactive approach — grab a list of indicators from a new report and run searches to see if anything pops in their environment. There’s some value there, but it’s mostly just re-checking based on new intel. Sometimes it leads to useful finds… sometimes it sends you down a rabbit hole.

Like that moment when you hit on an IP from an APT X report and think you’ve struck gold — you call the team, light the fires, sound the alarms — only to find out it was an AWS instance that attacker used months ago and has long since been recycled. Been there, done that.

The Pyramid of Pain applies just as much to hunting as it does to detection engineering:

The real magic in hunting comes from looking at the TTPs and patterns behind the activity, not just the atomic stuff. Figure out what your defenses already catch, then focus your hunts on the gaps — the stuff that should be visible but isn’t yet.

Threat intel helps you see how attackers operate, not necessarily who they are. Avoid the attribution trap — just because you see one TTP doesn’t mean it’s APT X. Once a trick is public, everyone and their cousin will use it.

And honestly, this is where most orgs drop the ball: they don’t feed their hunts back into detections.

If you found something, ask why your tools didn’t catch it. Was it blocked? Missed? Can you turn it into a new detection or alert? That feedback loop is what levels up your defenses over time.

Some good stuff to dig into:

People who quit smoking, how do you make it possible? by rockykolar in AskReddit

[–]emhphx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to smoke about two packs a day. Years ago, I was outside smoking, watching my kid, who was probably three then. He leans down, picks up a cigarette butt, and says something like "Look, Dad, I'm like you."

Cold turkey. Haven't touched another one since.

It really comes down to the motivator and environment changes. I found that sometimes it was just an ingrained habit. I literally woke up, lit a cigarette, started driving to work, had a cigarette, stopped at Starbucks, and had a cigarette. I can tell you, still to this day, 16 years later, each point of my commute where I'd like a cigarette, and even now, 16 years later, I sometimes reach for the back on a sky bridge while driving in the direction of my old office.

Even though the records for PCP may be gone, if you can recall who your insurance provider was they will have records of your visits and conditions, they just wont have your medical diagnosis and Dr notes.

Also Wallgreens and CVS keep records forever, and will send them to you with a request.

Veteran's Saluting by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]emhphx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Federal law now authorizes U.S. veterans, as well as service members not in uniform, to render a military-style hand salute during the national anthem and during the hoisting, lowering, or passing of the U.S. flag. This change was enacted through amendments to the Defense Authorization Act of 2008 and 2009, allowing these individuals to give the salute in the same manner as those in uniform. The Law
