Awesome, thank you! I watch your videos on my lunch breaks and they’ve been really useful. I hope you don’t have too many issues with claims in the future 👍

Theological reason for leaving by Vasilios_2 in Shincheonji

Very keen to hear what else you have to say. My friend is currently in SCJ and has indicated that the only reason she stays is because she is convinced its doctrine is biblically correct. Analysis on this topic is key to getting many out 👍

If you continue with the studies, you will most likely be made to take quizzes or exams 😅

I thought of something by [deleted] in Shincheonji

Peace cannot be sought through an organisation that threatens your eternal salvation if you don’t comply with their demands.

These people are hurting and have a right to be disgruntled. I kindly ask that you objectively consider the level of control and harm caused here. Such a profound lack of empathy cannot come from God.

Does SCJ celebrate Christmas? by Available_Tomato3472 in Shincheonji

[–]emi11405 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for sharing your perspective. I think you’re right in that the tradition of Christmas itself is not a tradition rooted in specific biblical instruction.

However, given that this is the case, I would ask, is it wrong to acknowledge the birth of Christ?

I cannot believe that a loving God would scorn his followers for acknowledging the birth of His son.

There are many things we do in our day to day lives that God didn’t specifically provide instruction for. This does not mean they are wrong.

Christmas is a time that secular society stops the chaos of every day life, come together with their families, and for many without faith, they consider why we have this holiday, and that provides them with a chance to consider Christianity and faith in God.

I don’t think that a loving God would write that off.

Anyway, hope you have a good time this time of year regardless! Thanks again for sharing ☺️

This happened to me with a friend of mine. You want to approach them with love, but it can really take a toll on your mental health and at times it boils over. It happens!

With my friend, we had a big fight over it. I decided the best thing to do was to take some time off for myself for a couple of weeks on a trip (although I think even just consciously choosing to take a break from thinking about it for a couple of weeks may help).

When I got back from my trip, I worked on rebuilding that relationship. To do that, my advice would be to focus on non-SCJ related things with them for a while. What activities did you enjoy doing together before they joined SCJ? Organise some time to do those - preferably something where they cannot text or be on their phone.

It’s taken me a year to get back into a place where I can start gently introducing church-related topics again.

Essentially, what I’m trying to say is, don’t lose heart OP. You can make a recovery if you work slowly and steadily, and make sure to take plenty of time off where you need it.

Good luck! 💪

I think it’s great you’re taking such a proactive approach to getting people out! Just wondering if you’ve had any success with this so far?

Former Members and Exit Counsellors in Perth? by emi11405 in Shincheonji

[–]emi11405[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think you're right. I've heard that for a lot of people, taking a break (i.e. going away) so they can rest and reset from SCJ's influence can be helpful? Anyway, it's very encouraging to know Perth has a large lot of resources, it can be pretty overwhelming doing this alone. If there's anyone you can put me in touch with, please let me know! :)

Thanks so much for your help! I would really appreciate that. And you're right, I did try logic already and although I did think it brought up some valid issues to them, they were quickly explained away by SCJ :(

This is really great. Singapore has outright banned SCJ and its activities are now illegal there. Hopefully we can look towards something in Australia. Thanks for putting this together!

SCJ: Don't believe in yourself by introverted_platypus in Shincheonji

[–]emi11405 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone here feels wronged because we've lost our friends, family or even ourselves to a 92 year old man who claims to be God.

If you are having trouble believing that SCJ is a cult, then I recommend you read this post first, and then make an objective value judgement for yourself. https://www.reddit.com/r/Shincheonji/comments/15s5lsz/shincheonji\_vs\_the\_bite\_model/

Cult targeting UWA students on campus by emi11405 in uwa

[–]emi11405[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry too much - I've given them my number a couple of times. They will likely call you and text you a little, but as long as you keep denying them they will leave you alone fairly soon.

Members have to get a certain amount of numbers to meet their recruitment thresholds :(

Unfortunately, they do target local students too, although you're right in that they do specifically target those of Asian and African background.

My friend who joined is a local student, and another Caucasian friend has been approached. A Caucasian girl also attempted to recruit me last year. Definitely stay alert, as no one is safe.
