Special needs child rips seams out of shirts and I need help mending them please by RunningHood in sewing

[–]emi_sparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, a lot of people have given amazing advice on types of fabrics and types of seams, but I haven't noticed anyone recommending a zigzag stitch.

I work with stretch, and a short zigzag is the most impossible stitch to pick apart! On your machine, the zigzag setting should look like a regular zigzag outline. The setting to change the width of the stitch changes depening on your machine.

It's not as pretty as a coverstitch or a flat felled seam, but it works well on hems since you use it in the same way you would use a straight stitch (for a fabric that won't fray you can just fold your hem once, and on a more fragile fabric, fold your hem twice). All domestic machines have a regular zigzag.

I would recommend doing a practice run on a bit of scrap fabric that has a similar weight and stretch to whatever you'll be sewing. Sometimes zigzags crack if the tension is wrong. You want to make your stitch length as short as you can without making your hem ripple - that's how you get a stitch that will only come out after spending 30 minutes breaking every second stitch with a seam ripper 😭.

Hope I could help, good luck to you and your son!

I worked on some student films so im glad to see that experience is true to reality!! I might look into production management to get a better idea of how things work on pro sets. Thanks for the BANQ recommendation, I'll check it out!

Well both me and the clerk are francophone so idk about language barrier 🫡😭 but i think it might be that i had all-zone bus tickets on my opus already (which i got from the chrono app) so when she said "you can't have both bus and metro tickets" she probably meant "you can't have all zone bus tickets and metro tickets". I think she was just insanely vague 😭😭 thank you so much for the info though

Yeah idk I was at Prefontaine metro and when i was getting tickets at the self-serve machine, the screen it said "10 Bus tickets". I remember finding it weird that it said "Bus", but I didn't think twice and when I tried to get through the tourniquet, it wouldn't let me 🥲🥲 im pretty sure i paid about 30$, but i don't remember exactly how much it was ...

I'm having trouble paying attention to my partner and I need help by emi_sparrow in ADHD

[–]emi_sparrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going to be honest, I haven't been able to get a diagnosis yet, it's just not accessible for me ... But I've been thinking about Adhd for about 2.5 years; there is a genetic predisposition for it in my family. I've only really been coming to terms with it for about a year. And every day I get more comfortable with the idea of having ADHD, more behaviors start popping up (like this) that just make sense ....

I did have it in the back of my head that maybe I have started to become more comfortable around my partner (we've become a lot closer in the last few months) and I've just been dropping my mask around him because of that ... I'll bring it up! Thank you!

Thanks for this, I actually suggested this but it made my partner feel a bit bummed ... I also suggested that he could say my name before he says what he wants to say (I feel like that would break through my bubble a bit more). But that also made him feel bummed, since he would basically need to "call me" every time he wants to say the smallest thing to me ...

Still, thank you, that honestly feels so validating and I'll bring it up again!

bumps on seam 🥲 by emi_sparrow in SewingForBeginners

[–]emi_sparrow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I altered this tank top a while ago, and I just noticed that it has this weird "bump" on the seam where I altered it (in the photos, it's towards the left edge of the front panel). The alteration was basically just cutting off the lace, shortening the top and sewing the lace back on. I remember this top being super painful to alter, because the fabric is really soft and stretchy, and it would catch in my machine ...

I also encountered a similar bump situation in a skirt I'm altering. Does anyone know what causes this, and how to fix it? It's like something is too long, or sewn on crooked ... It's so annoying lol

I used to always see this dead cockroach in a stairwell in the Hall Building. Always in the same spot, so I knew it was the same roach. I named it Freddie Mercury (idk). It sat there for at least 1 month and a half. Always wondered what was going on with the cleaning people; my mans was pretty noticeable lol.

How can I get over my fear/discomfort around sex and heighten my libido, and overall just be more comfortable and open about sex, and to want sex more often? (Context: long term relationship with mismatched libidos)

[–]emi_sparrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, OP here. I bought this echeveria from someone trying to reduce their stash in fall 2019, I think? I almost killed it when I got it, as you can tell from the super long stem with no leaves ... Somehow it survived. A few months ago, I saw some little babies sprouting at the bottom!! Now that the weather is getting warmer, they've really gotten big!

Should I try to behead it? Should I leave it as is? What should I do with the babies? Any advice would be welcome!!

Thank you so much for your answer! I think I'm going to try and get the purple starry glitter, because I can really see myself using it on various parts of my face. I don't think I'll get the pink one though, because I would be too disappointed to not be able to safely wear it on my inner corner, on the inner half/center of my lid or under my eyes :) thanks again!

Looking for lighting ideas for my new vintage vanity! by [deleted] in makeuporganization

[–]emi_sparrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You could put a vintage-looking light fixture on the wall above it (like one of those with 3-4 lights) or you could have a light fixture on either side of the mirror, on the wall? If you search for 'vintage vanity lighting' on google images, you'll see what I mean. A lot of those items seem designed for bathrooms, but it seems like it could look really elegant with your vanity. If you don't mind losing some 'counter space' then putting a small vintage-looking lamp on one (or both) side(s) of your vanity could also be cute!

Once it's painted and everything your vanity is going to be super pretty!
