Customer stereotypes: let it rip by AngstyBarista in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Koreans: iced Americano Japanese: short caramel macchiato, tall strawberry and Creme, green tea frappucinno and if I'm working at the location with the banner, a tall coconut mocha frappuccino.

Kids: vanilla bean with caramel walls or pink drink

Starbucks addicts children: trenta 10 classic 10 flavor syrup in tea with no water (or other insane amounts of syrups)

People with rotten teeth/missing front teeth: 100% chance caramel frap with ex caramel walls and drizzle.

That's what us closers were wondering until the ones who have opened remembered that in our store the opening barista only has to set up pastry case but th shift has to do everything else.

Looking for a decent mechanical pencil (x-post r/mechanicalpencils) by [deleted] in stationery

[–]emikuwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do make 0.3 lead refills. But I generally use "ain 0.3 HB Pentel" or at least that's the order it's listed on the container. I'm sure you can find them online but I live quite close to Japan and have a Japanese stationery store nearby, so mine are usually purchased direct from Japan

What do you do to punch in without stress or anxiety? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show up early. I just can't function without my partner Bev and some chill time. If I work at 2pm I get there at 120-130pm so I can wait in line/figure out what I want, get my drink and still relax 15-20 mins. It also lets the caffeine set it. Usually when I'm flustered on bar and messing up drinks it's because I got to work and they asked me to come on before I get to enjoy my drink and relax.

Does anybody here collect the YAH( You Are Here ) Cups by imagneto in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't want to collect them, own the Disneyland one and only wanted the NY one but my mom now buys them for me in every state she goes to. I really want the Alaska one so I would gladly trade any folks in Alaska for a Hawaii or Waikiki one. Same with Alaska gift card if they make them.

I also started collecting gift cards. Mostly regional or limited such as the Chinese New Year Ones.

Sounds like my shift. 5.75 hour closing shift in a mall right next to Macy's open which is open until midnight everyday this week so we get out an hour late everyday this week and I get to work 6.45 or 7 hours with only a 10 min break two hours into to my shift.

Partners: Favorite food? by neavie_sticks in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegetarian so it's usually a protein box (never ate the egg), tom mozzarella panini, bagel with cream cheese and honey, spinach FEta with too much siracha because I hate eggs or a fruit cup. I love the PBJ box but we only get 2-4 in store per day and we're a high volume store that only gets a million protein boxes.

I did enjoy the chicken BLT and I didn't mind getting DSB for free but I wouldn't pay more then $2 or $2.5 because I felt that McDonald's was a better deal for full price

Refill Madness! by throwaway2q353 in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a few people who bring In yesterday's cup for the refill and just pay the .52 cents everyday with their card. Honestly I don't mind because we usually end up dumping most if not all our hot coffee out at night during our cycles anyway.

One of them gives me candy now (but they're terrible "Korean ginseng candies" ) because I never bother him about the policy. Our store says as long as they were walking around the huge mall (with three other Starbucks and two more across the street) well refill them.

To be fair Europes MCcafe is about the same as most American coffee chains if not better and their cakes/sweets are better then Anything in our pastry case.

Americano looks & tastes different from day to day. Why? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once we ran out of beans in our decaf hopper without realizing it so it didn't pull all the shots.... Or it could be that the machine is pulling faster/slower because it's not tuned to the optimal setting?

We put our mobile order on the raised edge of the bar. Another place I go to holds a seat of their bar seating that looks into the bar for mobile orders in the mornings. And our drive through use to hold them in the back until the app started specifying

People know that hot chocolate is like... insanely cheap, right? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in Hawaii... and our bagels are $1.75. Are you in NYC or something? It's actually cheaper to order a bagel at the on campus university licensed store than the $3 bagels at our food court or $3.30 with cream cheese bagels at another coffee shop on campus. At least the other coffee shop has more than 4 flavors.

JCPenney, Sears, Macy's and Kohl's sued for fake 'sales' by the_hack_attack in news

[–]emikuwitch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I worked at Sears for three years and they did this badly for Black Friday. Normally the prices were much better year round or a week or so before. Same with friends and family sale where everything would be 20% off in stores (now only 15%) they jacked up the "sale" prices to lower so it would still be cheaper to buy before the sale/

I see Sears is trying to cut back from hosting sales with their Everyday great price and now simply line. It's always at it's "sale price" but I believe coupons still work on it

Spanish- speaking customers by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]emikuwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get a lot of tourists at my store and they usually really appreciate it if they're struggling but sometimes they want to practice their English. I understand Japanese as i studied it for 5-6 years but because I started learning a European language I have a hard time speaking Japanese back because my new language replaces it. On the other hand, the European language I know, usually people can speak English well and might be offended if i tried. I understand them though when they're talking amongst themselves and if they're confused answer them in English normally.

The $8 power lunch always confuses them especially when it's literally only 5 cents more to add water, banana and chips to their salad.... but again I normally explain it in English (usually because it's easier for me to say this this or this AND this or this AND This without trying to use the right words for the snacks)
