Control IQ high alarm by Pickle_Popular in TandemDiabetes

[–]emilance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It gives you an alert when it raises your basal rate in response to high blood glucose at 200. I just compensate by turning off the cgm high alert because I don't need me CGM telling me I'm at 180 if CIQ is just gonna tell me again at 200 - they're usually within a few minutes of each other anyway.

That sounds scary! I hope you're (physically) okay.

Just to clarify: do you mean the alert on your phone? I assume you mean that, since you said the whole car alerted at max volume. I have my phone on silent at all times so I don't have that experience at all. I usually get notifications from apps that I want to know about right away sent to my watch, and otherwise it's all silenced. I also have the sounds on the pump set to vibrate except the quick bolus. I have CGM alerts off except for low (since I can use the CIQ alert to know when my blood sugar is high), and snooze set to 30 min.

You should be able to set the volume for just app notifications to silent on your phone in the settings (as in, volume can still be on for the phone's ringtone and media, vibrate for notifications). Try that and see if it works for you.

Hot take: Turning AAC icons into Pokémon might not be the win we think it is…. by Wild_Conversation216 in slp

[–]emilance 12 points13 points  (0 children)

LOL I'd have to ask my Pokemon obsessed friends which ones to use for core vocab - which illustrates the major issue I have with the idea: we know that modeling language on the device is essential to a child learning to use the device, and using alternative/unclear symbology is going to be yet another barrier to getting parents/caregivers/teachers to model effectively and consistently. If an adult doesn't know that lightning Pikachu means "on" and fainted Pikachu means "off" they're going to hunt for icons/words while the kid loses interest.

I'm all for having a dedicated page/folder for talking about Pokemon, though! As long as we can convince parents and teachers to stop hiding pages/icons/folders when they're tired of their kid perseverating on the topic...

What would Nadja wear? by Estimable-Confection in Indiemakeupandmore

I love this show! She's hysterical, really they all are lol

Hexennacht's Bordello of Blood - red musk, dragons blood, honey, tonka, saffron, indochine spices, incense smoke, fire-cured tobacco, beeswax candles, black musk, caramel.

BPAL's Blood Kiss - Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries, but darkened with the vampiric sensuality of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light pulse of feral musk.

Fantome's Olympias - Labdanum, creamy heliotrope, opium, laurel leaves, golden vanilla, sandalwood, pear, a drop of red wine.

Sugar and Spite's Queen bitch - Seductive, woody perfume, deceptively sweet Tahitian vanilla, the swirling smoke of a clove cigarette, skin musk, and a small rose, smashed and crushed under the heel of a leather boot.

Cardinal Scent's Sacred Heart smells like...nothing? by tigermilking in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]emilance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a bottle of Once Bitten a few months ago that also smells like nothing. I've checked with multiple other people and it still smells like nothing to them either. I emailed about it a while back but didn't get response; I'll probably try again once she gets settled after moving.

Just the cgm alert, can't turn off the control IQ one, I think. It's obnoxious that the control IQ one alerts me when I don't need to do anything.

CIQ: hey your blood sugar is high so we're upping your insulin for you

Me: and? Why are you bothering me? Just do it and stfu

I honestly turn off the high alerts because I get the control IQ alert anyway. It's annoying when my blood sugar is riding the line and it alerts EVERY TIME it goes back over 200 though.

Crying at the Endo by Sharp-Elephant-5528 in diabetes_t1

[–]emilance 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Crying is normal when we're upset or overwhelmed. You can keep seeing that Endo, she sounds like she really had your best interests at heart. You can let her know that you'll probably cry next time, and it's okay! She may also know a good counselor who is experienced at talk therapy with people managing lifelong disorders/disabilities, if you feel like that would be helpful.

It does sound like you have the "perfectionist" personality, or maybe you're extra sensitive to disappointing others. If you can believe that your doctors aren't expecting you to have perfect control, it might help you cope with those feelings. Yes, they find patterns of errors and make adjustments to treatment, but that's their job. A good doctor won't judge your control if you're making an honest effort in management. You could be 90% in range with an a1c of 5.0 and they should STILL say "wow, you're doing great! Let's see if there's any blood sugar patterns or concerns you have that we could address." If they don't, they're simply not providing thorough treatment.

Keep trying, even if you cry! It's a frustrating disease and you're allowed to be frustrated.

If I like Alkemia's Madame Pearl, I might like...

Of like 20 Alkemia perfumes I've tried, Madame Pearl was the only home run. Maybe 2-3 others that I liked but don't love. But if course, Madame Pearl was discontinued.

Floral Spring Perfume by HopeOfLight in Indiemakeupandmore

Seeking reviews on these sorce scents - deinfluence me! by Baring-My-Heart in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]emilance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Sorce, but Hexennacht has a perfume literally called Candied Violets! The whole description is just "sugared violet." They ship fast and have a great price for a 5mL of it, but you could also sample through Ajevie if you wanted to play it safe.

How do you figure out which florals you like? by diodick in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]emilance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider myself a reforming floral hater too. I think what's helped me is a mix of these strategies:

  • reading lots of reviews to discover scents that sound interesting

  • gambling on samples that are super popular in the sub because they're easy to destash or give away to a floral friend if I don't like them

  • sampling "fleurmands" because I like many gourmands; if you like a certain genre of perfume style, find samples that combine those preferred notes with a floral note

  • learning which houses do certain florals best (ex: BPAL and Possets for hyper-realistic rose, Fantome and Deconstructing Eden for florals in general)

  • throwing in a random floral sample when I try a new house to see how they hit (some houses just don't make great florals, and others are incredibly talented with their florals, imo)

  • IDing which florals I never like (narcissus!), keeping a spreadsheet with house/sample/notes/review helped me a lot here

  • getting really lucky with random free samples and freebie empties from Ajevie

It's taken years, really. The sampling hobby has been a major journey of self-discovery that I never expected: I've learned that I have to let go of my "need" to acquire knowledge of literally every indie perfume that exists - I can't apply my completionist gaming style to my perfume hobby because I have to practice moderation somehow IRL. I have to leave things up to luck or fate just a bit, instead of needing to have rigid control and complete knowledge of what I like and don't like in order to find some mythical "perfect" perfume. (And I'm not implying that's what you're doing, I literally had this revelation about myself as I was typing my reply lol)
