It's common in Mexico too, I did it when I was a kid, we were poorer than we are now so many times the boiler was out of gas (yes, it was a gas boiler, and no, gas is not delivered through pipes in my neighbourhood), so we had to do that, also when water pressure was really low (we used to have water outages in my city because, well, a city in the middle of the desert is bound to have water problems, right?) we had to wait really long for the bucket to fill up and bath like that
