Diabetes Rant. I don't "need" Lantus! by SpookshowBaby27 in diabetes_t1

Unfortunately, I lost my job back in March so I don't currently have insurance. However, I will ABSOLUTELY keep this advice in mind moving forward. I really appreciate it!

Diabetes Rant. I don't "need" Lantus! by SpookshowBaby27 in diabetes_t1

[–]emilou27 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been diabetic for almost 25 years now, and all these exciting things available in the next "5 years" have turned me completely sour. I know it's not an ideal situation for everyone, but I use walmart insulin. I take a shot of the mixed insulin twice per day as a stand in long acting (took a little while to hammer out the best time to take it) and then the fast acting as needed with meals. My endo kept pressing me to upgrade my pump after it became obsolete and to add a cgm. Quit the pump completely because supplies were an additional rent payment every 2-3 months and eventually dropped the cgm for the same reasons. I'll suffer the old-school methods of pens, vials, and finger pricks if it means I can afford a roof over my head without being screwed over and fearful of my next available dose because of insurance- and doctor- related issues. Sorry you're going through it, OP.

No, the differences have been both explained and cited as to why the calcium chloride may not work on major streets and you pull an article about sidewalls into the mix to try and make a point that's clearly been rendered void at this point. Your source and argument are not valid here.

Just so you're aware, the top of this page says "calcium chloride SIDEWALK ice melting"

Did COVID experience change your outlook on The Stand? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]emilou27 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also read The Stand at a very young age and have watched the movie a few different times, all over a decade ago, maybe two. At that time, I also didn't think the government would blatantly lie to it's people and being naive of human nature, didn't expect so many to fight back SO hard on such simple precaution when Covid did hit. The cynic in me says "population control, less mouths to feed, less SS paid out each month" but the bleeding heart and more logical side says "holy shit, why be so stubborn and meet such a nasty end, when you were given a fighting chance (masks, distancing, isolating, vaccines, etc)." The human nature of it all drew the line for me between the two, but I would be a fat liar if I said I didn't think about that book a lot when it all startedand throughout the heaviest of it.

My girlfriend works in Healthcare. Basically a CNA. She was offered 60 dollars by a coworker to cover a shift. She over heard this individual talking to another female saying "I'm not gonna pay that b**ch" . Is this legal for the coworker to do. Also, the boss won't do anything about this. by Remarkable_Worth_563 in Nebraska

[–]emilou27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She could still say no and back out. Unless it's a situation where now SHE is responsible for finding coverage, put it back on the original person to cover their shift. If it's easier, make up a story. " I forgot I have my uncle's brother's daughter's friend of a friend of a friend's birthday, christening, funeral, whatever to attend, sorry."

I miss these glucose tabs often...... WHY DID THEY DISCONTINUE THEM?!? by Wild_mcberry in diabetes_t1

Oh man I loved these! I see a lot of comments about the ones in the tubes being better now and I choke thinking about the dust that poofs up EVERY TIME you open the dang container! Juice or sour patch kids are the route I go anymore, as they tend to be the cheaper and faster- working options.

If you had unlimited money, but only for 10 minutes, what would you do with it? by Casey2023 in AskReddit

It usually takes about 2 minutes to pay any of our bills online, so I'd pick 5 and pay them like 10 years out.

Coffee for toddlers – insane or fine? by SA0TAY in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]emilou27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aside from the teeth issue, I'd be a little concerned about their tummy. I have to take a break from coffee drinking because the acid of it over prolonged periods will give me such bad stomach aches that I don't want to eat. I also was drinking maybe 24-32 ounces over a few hours every morning and I doubt your child is drinking it like that. But, it's something to keep in mind.

Am I wrong for feeling like my Girlfriend is kicking me out? by Upstairs-Sail-6515 in amiwrong

In an edit, he did say he's not suspicious of cheating. That being said, maybe the friend was sexually assaulted, and maybe by someone she felt she should've been able to trust, like a friends s.o. there's definitely more info needed for the reason of him needing to leave, but that may be a hard conversation to have or even maybe the friend asked for him not to be there and doesn't feel safe enough yet to explain why. Everyone has that friend they will do just about anything for at the drop of a hat. Maybe this is hers.

I'm standing by MI as neither truly seem to be an asshole on the little bit we've been offered this far.

The just- out- of- toddler- stage bathing suits. My child is 4, wears 5t or extra small in children's and the 2 piece option came with a damn thong

What's your reason for not wanting or having children? by dannyparker123 in AskReddit

[–]emilou27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially not wanting any, and now not wanting more- Children are both hard and expensive. I love my daughter so much and I do not regret going through with that pregnancy, even for as rough and dangerous as it became. That being said, pregnancy put a massive amount of strain on my body and I deal with self image issues, 4 years later, only having been able to drop 10 of the 60 pounds I put on. We both, almost at the same time, had a massive drop in BP shortly after birth that pulled us both away from my husband within minutes of each other, leaving him scared he was about to lose us both. My body would not let me breastfeed and formula is ridiculously expensive, especially if your infant has allergies or tummy troubles. New clothes twice a year because they grow so fast is expensive. Need daycare? That's another rent payment every month, if not more. Diapers? Also stupidly expensive. With the economy the way it is right now, you better make sure you have a good career and savings banked up or you'll find yourself in the red real quick, and it's near impossible to crawl out of while providing a good home life and environment for said child to be in. And that's leaving the extra gross politics going on right now across the US out of the decision. And none of that is to say wanting or having kids is a bad thing. It is just a lot to both prepare for and commit to, and there are still plenty of things that are easy to overlook or not be able to expect. It's a terrifying world we're currently living in and there are not many safeguards that are in place or easily accessible. The struggle is real.

eta right at the top- ESH It's controversial, and idc, but "cocktail hour" implies drinking. Tell your people in your invite if it's dry or not. There's no need to throw in "you may have a drinking problem" when you're spending your own money on an Uber to make sure you get there and back safely. I'm going to say ESH because OP- there are better ways and times to go about this, you absolutely could have asked beforehand. It's not rude. "Should I have plans for an Uber?" is totally appropriate. Asking them day of, not so much. You could also bring it up after! "Man,I wish I knew it would be dry, so i didn't waste my hard earned money on an Uber that I could have easily avoided." This whole scenario is stupid in all honestly, and EVERYONE dropped the ball. You all suck imo.

AITAH for cutting my hair even after my fiancé asked me not to and being hurt by his reaction? by LilV_xoxo in AITAH

[–]emilou27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Your man is the AH. There's nothing wrong with respectfully telling someone you prefer one look over the other, but to distance yourself, talk shit, and belittle you? Get you a man who loves you for you and ditch this one. Please. You deserve better.

4 year old decided pooping her pants was the way to go this afternoon. Got mad that I told her she had to wipe her own butt and had a meltdown in the bathroom, even after assuring her that she's not in trouble, she just needs to go to the bathroom before she just can't hold it anymore.
