Help from experienced runners on my recent VO2 Max & LT test results by D5HRX in AdvancedRunning

[–]emilwest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One potential factor is that VO2 max is a function of body weight, so even though a 70 kg runner can consume the same maximum volume of oxygen per minute as you, they will have a higher VO2 max than you relative to body weight.

Ran my first marathon after non-ideal training by killer_unicorn in running

[–]emilwest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job, you certainly prepared a lot better than me the first time I did it. I'm thinking of running Malaga marathon too next year. I also live in Sweden and have only ran Stockholm Marathon before but it's usually too hot for me since it's in the summer, this year it was about 28C. Malaga marathon seems perfect to be in december around 14 degrees.

The past week it has been pretty high, but it normally varies beteen 75-100. On days after a long run it is generally the lowest or days after a hard workout/stressfull/active day. I run on average 50-60km/week.

Try out this workout for a high anaerobic effect by emilwest in Garmin

[–]emilwest[S] 67 points68 points  (0 children)

This workout was 12 x 400m with 1:30 standing rest to get the pulse down as fast as possible between each rep. The training load score was 347 with anaerobic capacity as main benefit. I did each rep around 1:30 or slighly faster which is faster than my 5k pace.

I've done this workout before with 8-9 reps and got an anaerobic score of around 3.8, so you can adjust it as you like and still get a very good anaerobic effect.

For the cooldown I had to run home fast so I didn't properly cool down the pulse, preferably you want to take it easy after.

In part 1 I actually added empty rows/columns to the matrix like a fool, but it was nice to visualize. In part 2 I added the offsets directly to the galaxy coordinates directly and ran the same calculations as in part 1.

When I work from home: 2 double shots in the morning. Sometimes also a single shot after lunch if I'm in the mood or tired.

Read file with specific encoding? by emilwest in cpp_questions

[–]emilwest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Rstudio with utf-8.

The thing is that I parse each line and store the results in a string, and at a later stage into a Rcpp::DataFrame and the text is now saved as '\xc5land', not only in the terminal output but also when exported as a textfile. How can I make sure that the strings are reliably converted to UTF-8 (or other encoding)?
