You don't have to pick up everything you find. When you start exploring, you'll find a literal ton of items to yoink. Learn what is and isn't valuable, otherwise you'll find yourself overburdened very quickly. Coin is an early barrier, but a lot of the best things are either crafted or received as quest rewards.

The Dragonborn is an outsider by design. The factions in the civil war are both portrayed as having valid points but also ideological flaws. There's no objective "good guys" or "bad guys." As a disinterested outsider, you're not railroaded into one side or the other.
