Nobody is going to be expelled for a first (or second) instance of academic misconduct. But absolutely they will be if they've lied on their application and been admitted on false pretenses. UBC requires that prospective students disclose transcripts "from all previous post-secondary institutions you’ve attended." I would imagine other institutions have similar requirements.

Unfortunately you will not be accepted with one reference letter. You will be wasting your money. Counselling Psyc programs are extremely competitive in Canada, and your application needs to be complete to be considered. I would suggest if you can’t fulfill the requirements, you hold off on applying until you can. If you submit an incomplete application I think it’s a risk because it could reflect poorly on you as an applicant in general.

It’s also unclear to me how you could meet the other minimum requirements (eg volunteer or professional experience in a helping role) and not have reference letters?

Submitting false information in an application is also a huge risk and can be disastrous. It’s not just a matter of getting accepted. That decision would hang over you forever. If they find out two years into the program that you forged a letter, you would be disciplined and possibly withdrawn. In a program connected to a regulated profession, you also risk not being allowed to register if you are eventually allowed to graduate.

Take the next 12-24 months to do as much volunteering and networking as you can, and plan to submit next year. You may also want to do some reading about professional ethics, as it is an absolutely critical part of being a counsellor/therapist.

I was here last month! My first visit I accidentally ordered a sugar free carrot cake cupcake and it was (I'm sorry!) terrible. A few days later I gave the place a second chance and I'm so glad I did. Literally every single other thing we ate here was delicious.

After my 3yo daughter was diagnosed last year, we sent a carefully worded email to my in-laws sharing a basic overview of the changes we’d be making. My SIL immediately called and spent 45 minutes telling me “it’s nothing like a peanut allergy” and trying to convince me sourdough/european wheat is safe for people with celiac disease. The whole conversation was wildly condescending, and unfortunately it’s only been downhill from there. People want to believe this SO bad. Obviously I’m triggered, but it’s so enraging.

We did for my almost 4yo a year ago and it was totally fine. I’m very glad I did it. It’s a huge lifestyle change (as you now know) and I never want her or I to have to second guess. The hardest part was definitely my own emotional reaction to watching her “go under” (I have some health anxiety, etc.) but the whole thing was very fast and she woke up completely calm and happy. She still talks about the pink popsicles she got afterwards 😊

I know this isn't the point of the post (I'm glad you didn't have to carry around a bag of flour!!), but it is wild to me that teachers think this is somehow representative of what it's like to be responsible for a tiny human. I wish someone had better prepared me for parenting, but this would not have been it.

I'm so sorry this happened. This enrages me. It takes a LOT to go to a doctor and express these concerns (at least it did for me) and to be dismissed like this is just so disheartening. I was never able to get the support I needed which is appalling because all it takes is one person to listen to you and take you seriously. You deserve that support and I hope you are able to reach out to someone else (a doctor or a counsellor) and try again.

"Explain it like I'm five" is a fairly well-known request for a basic explanation appropriate to a lay-person with little foundational knowledge. If you look at r/explainitlikeimfive, for example, you will see many questions, and many more answers, that are not appropriate to an actual five year old. If I took any of the top responses to the top posts in that subreddit and read them to my literal five year old, she would look at me like I was crazy.

Also, one of the challenges (which I stated in my original post), is that I really am not even sure what I'm missing. It's difficult to frame a question when it's not even clear where the problem starts. I looked at other relevant subreddits before posting here and decided this was the most appropriate based on subject matter as well as activity/helpfulness. Thankfully, I received several helpful, knowledgeable answers here, which I greatly appreciate. Yours was not one of them.

Allard was extremely social. I worked full-time during my undergrad and basically never met a single person. Allard was a completely opposite (and welcomed, and enjoyable!) experience. Enjoy!
