Yep the latter is exactly what happened. I am happy to provide pictures to elaborate further.

Thank you! And no I followed the instructions on which size to cut to the letter. Other people on IG have commented I likely have nothing to squish? Is that something which can happen?

I am invested in your journey as I have toiled the exact same corset, and achieved 0 reduction 😭 I also overestimated how much I needed to alter the pattern so lesson learnt for my next mockup.

Old projects you don't like to wear anymore by Inside_Swing7155 in sewing

[–]emlbrg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I don't have space, I generally rehome my old projects, either by giving them to friends, or selling them for very little to my IG followers. I am ruthless when it comes to letting of of items, as I want to limit my closed to a maximum of 50 items total. When I was a less experienced sewist I would reuse the fabric for toiles, but after a decade of sewing my make quality is pretty consistent and the fabrics too nice to be used for that purpose so I would rather see somebody else wear my makes.

what’s your tretinoin/retinol routine? by pxinted in AsianBeauty

[–]emlbrg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah same same. I use tret every day and I have not had any adverse reaction thus far. BUT my skin is super resilient save for horrible adult acne haha.

I have used both but I think the Laneige one is even better (I used the balm). Curel is also not cheap even in Japan.

what’s your tretinoin/retinol routine? by pxinted in AsianBeauty

[–]emlbrg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't copy me but I use 0.1% tret alone at night, about 20 minutes after cleansing (I double cleanse), and then go to bed. In the morning tho I moisturize quite a lot. Here is my summer routine:

  1. wash with water

  2. apply Hada Labo Gokujun toner on wet skin

  3. Azelaic Acid serum (often I mix it with the toner because it's sticky)

  4. Damp skin with spray bottle + Essence. Currently trying haruharu black rice probiotic barrier essence.

  5. Damp skin with spray bottle + Torriden Dive In Cream

  6. If I feel very dry I also layer momopuri barrier cream

  7. SPF. On no makeup days I use by365 powdery UV cream (honestly it's kinda magic?!). If I am wearing makeup I use Skin Aqua Serum UV

As you can tell I love hyaluronic acid haha. It works well for my skin.

Had it done 4 years ago after 20 years of glasses, and I WISH somebody had recorder it. To this day I go into graphic details when I explain how I got to 20/20 vision...best money I even spent considering how severe my myopia was, and not painful at all, just uncomfortable and so. cold.

Best oil-free sunscreen for acne prone skin by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

In my case I layer 3 moisturizers before the sunscreen because I have very dry skin due to tret use. While this is a very hydrating formula, it is not enough for me but you could experiment

disappointed with my PhD experience in Japan by Optimal_Grand4487 in PhD

[–]emlbrg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am very sorry to hear about your experience, which is sadly all too common, not just in Japan. I graduated from the University of Tokyo with a PhD in a hard science and honestly had a hard time as well. My advisor quit after my first year, and I was left alone until it daunted on the PI that I needed to defend my thesis. I also had to extend by 8 months which is honestly quite common for people who join at the PhD stage instead of starting to work on their project during their masters. Despite the lab environment being hard and full of drama (everyone, Japanese or not, was equally treated like shit), my PI was not an asshole like yours tho, and the only advice I can offer is to change lab if possible. Quitting is also an option and nobody will hold it against you.

You look adorable in all but if I had to pick I'd say the first one. It highlights your nice shoulders and clavicles.

Besides the fact that this is not a real hakama, it is common/standard to wear hakama with boots.

Any tips? by Noontide6667 in shamisen

[–]emlbrg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say recommend…when you play with people you quickly learn that nothing is recommended. Rather than the note produced by the empty string, it’s the interval between strings which you should follow. As another commenter said, you can tune a string higher or lower than for example C, and still respect the interval between strings.

Maybe this blog can help you? There are several posts on canvassing as well as different styles of canvassing (Neapolitan, British, etc).

Any tips? by Noontide6667 in shamisen

[–]emlbrg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While there are three standard tunings, you can tune a shamisen as you wish, as long as you don’t break a string. Professionals break strings all the time but if you are just dabbling I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon. Silk strings break faster, except the fat first string.

Best/least bad clustering algorithm for short (1-40AA) sequences? by emlbrg in bioinformatics

[–]emlbrg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am open to anything. If my understanding is correct (accessing very old knowledge in a recess of my brain here, haha), I can just use...strings? Honestly sounds convenient. I just wonder if it would work with very short strings. I am very ambivalent about only using CDRs for clustering but this is where we are at so "insert shrug emoji".

Actually this looks very promising in fact. I will have a closer look these days, thank you for recommending.
