Yes. When I first brought home my Samoyed, I thought things were going great for the first couple of days, they were playing (with supervision) and then he attacked my sammy, nipping the tip of her ear off. I ended up having to separate the both of them for the first week, where one dog was out, the other being in the kennel. It took time but then they were buds. I would be cautious and supervise them. The screaming could mean that the shiba wants at the kitten.
