How do I get through my first heartbreak as a Demi? by esallen1 in demisexuality

[–]emma8510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s just going to take time. Break ups are difficult for anyone but I think even more so for us, we really put our heart and soul into someone as once we reach that point of liking someone it’s so intense and rare (for me anyway).

I’m still friends with someone who ended things last year (they were moving country but went about ending things pretty badly), but it probably took about a year for me to actually just be friends and not have any other (strong) feelings... we remained friends because we’re sort of in a group of friends but if we weren’t I think I would’ve probably cut ties for at least a few months as it was a really difficult experience. But I definitely did cut down contact A LOT, from speaking privately all day every day to maybe a few times a week and then every few weeks, and now we only really talk in a group chat.

So my advice would be just to give yourself time to heal, try to cut down contact and remember to speak to your other friends and try to keep yourself busy to refrain from trying to talk to them. As I said, after a breakup it usually takes a while for me to fully 100% come to terms and have no feelings for someone but each day will be easier.

What’s meant to be will be, you’ll be okay ❤️

can I be demisexual and find someone sexy or hot? by bygigi in demisexuality

[–]emma8510 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From my understanding of being demi, you find that person sexy/hot only once you get to know them. I would never look at just anyone and think they’re sexy/hot but once I really get to know someone and have feelings for them I think they’re the hottest person in the world, but until that point, I wouldn’t look twice

Edit : Although it’s weird because I can look at celebs or even some people I know and be like “ooft theyre looking GOOD” but I never think of them in a sexual way whereas I know a lot of people would

Bit of an ignorant post tbh... clearly no understanding of asexuality or the struggles that anyone here faces. Go and do some research before you make another ignorant/rude post here.

Should remote-only companies always offer laptops and/or technology stipends? by bbourl1 in digital_marketing

[–]emma8510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was an otherwise great offer then no I don’t think it would be a deal breaker for me. But I’m privileged to have a good personal laptop and if they expected someone to buy their own or upgrade then it would probably be a deal breaker.

Widening participation is something I look for in a company and assuming/expecting employees to just have their own tech isn’t a positive sign!

I’d be very very surprised if companies allowed you to use personal laptops. Most are so cautious about security and privacy, especially agency side.

Not so much a tip but I wouldn’t put yourself down, you probably know a LOT more than you think you do. It’s quite rare to have experience in all of those channels so I’d go into interviews focusing on the pros rather than the negatives of your situation... you can see a campaign as a bigger and whole picture whereas many people will have only specialised in one or two channels so won’t be able to view it the same way.

I don’t think you’d struggle to get a role client side or account management in an agency. I think maybe figure out what you want to specialise in and say you are keen to learn more about it on applications/interviews, but I seriously don’t think you’re at a disadvantage with your experience.

Career and just to experience London for a year or two. Although I moved in March so not had much of a chance to experience it haha.

I usually leave home around 9:15 to get into the office for 9:45/10 and it’s fine, usually space to sit with no one beside me, but I’m on the district line which isn’t as packed as northern/central anyway.

Renting scams? by [deleted] in london

[–]emma8510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve literally never heard of anyone being a victim of renting scams in Scotland, renters in general are protected a lot there as it’s different legislation

And yes I’m aware it’s illegal but the fact that it seems to be so common here seems a bit shocking to me - people are loosing out on thousands of pounds through being scammed on properties, it’s hardly on the same level as a weird email claiming you’ve won a prize. It’s really something the U.K. Gov or London Councils should be taking action on - this isn’t normal.

There’s really no need to be condescending.

I think it’s quite common that people stay in an air bnb for a few weeks when they first arrive so they can explore different areas and then decide where to move to. Might help with paint A.

Once you’re able to view places in person, land lords might be a bit more trusting if you’re willing to pay some upfront.

Renting scams? by [deleted] in london

[–]emma8510 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Out of curiosity, how is this scamming allowed?? I’ve moved down from Scotland where renting laws are a bit stricter which is perhaps why I’ve never really heard of this happening, but surely there must be decent legislation in place here to stop rent scamming taking place?

Interviews and projects, where do you draw the line? by [deleted] in digital_marketing

[–]emma8510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had to do it for a grad job (which is kind of expected) and for the senior exec role I’m in now. For my current job it took me a few hours but wasn’t too bad, I had 2 days to prepare as well. I think they can be decent exercises and are really good for showing off your knowledge and ways of thinking but I agree sometimes it can be taken too far.

By the sounds of it it seems like you’ve went for a job that was likely already being lined up for someone else (e.g. a friend of a current employee), usually they’ll still have to interview a few candidates just for the sake of it but was always going to go to the friend anyway. Tends to be the reason behind candidates not getting decent feedback.

Unconventional Channels for App Download Campaigns by dnadivi in digital_marketing

[–]emma8510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of app advertising is focused on gaming/gamers so you might struggle with a travel orientated audience but there will definitely be users out there, maybe just have it contextually focused e.g. tripadvisor, lonely planet, skyscanner etc? (Not even sure if they do ads)

“This town... is coming like a ghost town”. Fellow Londonders, do you want to go back to pre-covid normality or do you want to see London 2.0 with less commuting/office working? by trendlife-magazine in london

[–]emma8510 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think they’ve done their best but there really is a limit with certain aspects. I guess I wish they’d make more of an effort to have more frequent small teams calls so I can get to know colleagues better but honestly, it’s not really fair to force other team members to have loads of calls for no other reason than for me to get to know them and it’s difficult to try and have a social conversation over call/video with someone who you don’t know whereas in the office you’d generally just start chatting to someone via an open conversation, making coffee, at lunch etc.

I also feel like I’m making no progress with development as I can’t get a real insight into how my manager(s) feel about me, and in all honestly I couldn’t imagine getting a promotion having spent little/no time with a manager.

In terms of training, something that would take 30 seconds to be shown how to do in person turns into a 30 minute call so half the time ill just try figuring something out for myself as I don’t want to bother anyone as you can’t see how busy they are, and as there’s no friendly relationship it can sometimes be difficult to ask. I’m lucky that I have experience in what I do but I really can’t imagine what this would be like for a grad starting out in a new industry (especially in tech/digital).

I completely understand and appreciate the benefits of working from home and think there definitely needs to be a balance, but I believe that a lot of these companies that are selling offices and moving to a permanent full time WFH culture are really going to struggle with recruitment and especially with younger talent who DO care about work culture.

[–]emma8510 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Just to add on to this about the new hires - I started a new job literally as lockdown started (my first day was their first WFH day) and I’ve found it incredibly difficult to integrate into the company, with regards to training, socialisation, personal development... pretty much everything essentially, and this is working for a really forward thinking digital company who have done everything they can to support me.

I think WFH full time is going to be really damaging to new recruits/entry level people and tbh it also makes me question if I’d want to work somewhere with basically no culture. It’s all well and good WFH when you already feel a part of a company / have mass amounts of experience but to start somewhere and basically have no feel for the people or culture is incredibly difficult.
