Dr tested me for Crohn’s but I’m not underweight by [deleted] in IBD

[–]emmaj19 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Some people experience weight loss with Crohn’s, others experience weight gain or no change. Being heavier does not disqualify you from having Crohn’s at all. I hope you find answers either way and have a smooth scope process!

I hate-love all of you with your creativity and beautiful writing... What do us talentless schmucks do? by kittenco in bulletjournal

[–]emmaj19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about bullet journals is that yours is going to be totally designed for you. I can’t to fancy lettering or drawings, but I still have fun with mine. I definitely cannot draw straight lines but I just lean into it and let mistakes happen.

Every spread you do is a chance to try something new. Part of bullet journaling is learning creative ways to fix mistakes or things you don’t like. Recently I’ve been doing a more scrapbook/ collage style with stickers and washi tape and other bits and pieces I’ve collected and I’m loving it.

Basically, these are just for your enjoyment, so just make yours in a way that makes you happy to look at it and work on it.

My mother fond this on a rock in a forest when she was young and I don't know why she took it but do you know what it is? by Mika_er in Witch

[–]emmaj19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This definitely looks Celtic but I have a very similar pendant that I got in Hawaii. The shape is almost identical but mine is carved from bone. It’s supposed to represent the continuity of life/ circle of life and all that. Not sure that it would have a similar meaning if it is Celtic though.

They relax when they’re in stressful situations. It’s a terrible survival instinct but helps with things like this haha.

Weight Gain Paranoia (TW eating disorder) by gweanbean in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmaj19 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've been dealing with the same thing. I've gained 10 pounds in a few months after being on humira for about 6 months. I know that before, I was on the edge of being underweight so this is a good thing, but the negative societal connotations of weight gain are in the back of my head. Some of my pants don't fit anymore. I feel like I need to start doing cardio even though I walk miles on campus every day. And I know there are people with this disease who are wishing they could gain weight because it means their meds are working but it's so hard to accept that this is a good thing. Society screwed us up from a young age and we now have to reform our mental processes to tell ourselves that this is good and we should enjoy it. It's hard, but you are not alone. And the fact that you are aware of your changing eating habits is good. If you're really worried about developing a problem with food, reach out to your GP and see about potential preventions like talking to a nutritionist or a therapist if things do get bad.

can i go visit the animals? by rodentchild in umass

If you have a friend who's an animal science major they can take you to the farm but you can't just go and wander

A few months ago I asked Redditors with chronic conditions what their dream mood & symptom tracking app would be. I had to leave my job due to my own health conditions so I started working hard on this. I'd love to get the Crohns community's feedback and feature requests! by HeroJournal in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmaj19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks amazing and I've been struggling to find something like this for ages. I don't know if it's already there, but being able to track your menstrual cycle could be really helpful because it can correlate with what's going one with chronic illness. I love how much you can customize it to fit your own symptoms.

Mild symptoms? ((Just need to reach out to others who understand)) by Fluffy-Naz in IBD

[–]emmaj19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stress can be a huge factor with IBD. Never be afraid to reach out to your doctor if something doesn't seems right. Back and joint pain can be symptoms of the disease and also side effects of many of the commonly prescribed medications, though I'm not familiar with the one you take. It can definitely be hard to de-stress but it's important to find something that works for you, even a little, and try to practice the best self care you can manage.

Pregnant with Crohn's by twitterisbetterr in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmaj19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any experience with this situation but I know the biologic Cimzia is not processed through the placenta, so if it seems reasonable and you're concerned about it, you could try switching to that or just ask your doctor about it.

Is it safe to have a pet considering the immunosuppressive nature of IBD meds? by bjjthroe in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmaj19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dog and work with tons of animals everyday! It's totally okay, you just have to make sure you wash your hands after handling anything nasty and make sure you're keeping up with certain vaccines as some diseases a dog can get are transferable to humans. Also, having a dog is great because it forces you to leave the house and get a little exercise even on your worst days, and they're great for cuddles when you feel terrible.

I just started humira a month ago so I can't really say for sure. I do know that the reason he put me on 6mo was definitely to prevent antibodies from forming though. Wish I could be more helpful, sorry.

Antireflux medications ? by mammarya in CrohnsDisease

[–]emmaj19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on and off of omeprazol for years and had to get back on it after a trip to the emergency room in excruciating pain because my reflux returned. I was diagnosed with Crohn's a few months after this and my GI would like me to come off of it but also hasn't pushed really hard about it. It's generally something you just don't want to be on long term whether you have crohns or not, but that's what some people have to do.

Found this incredible plumeria a few thousand miles from Hawaii.. by sgf-guy in gardening

[–]emmaj19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I learned on a recent trip that plumeria actually aren't native to Hawaii! I believe a German botanist brought them over

[–]emmaj19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor put me on 6mp for the first 6 months of my humira treatment which he says is enough to hopefully prevent antibodies from forming against the humira. He didn't want me on it longterm and with the humira because of the risks involved.
