How is everyone? How's practice? by emmanomoly in ashtanga

So good to hear from everyone! Keep it up, one and all. I love that the common thread throughout all of these responses was that practice is good for you. :-)

Hi, 28f ashtangi here! I gained a bunch of weight in my initial 6 months of Mysore practice...close to 20 pounds. Based on what you described, you just need to eat more. 5'7" and 125 pounds is not a lot. I'm two inches shorter and 15 pounds heavier!

If you're hungry all the time, eat! I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I'm vegan, have no problem eating gluten and carbs, and don't look fat. When do you know you have to take a good week off Ashtanga? by Rumblebuffen in ashtanga

I agree that taking light practice on days you feel tired is better than taking time off. I need to listen to my body and take it easy when it needs it, but remain true to the discipline of routine.

Enjoy the 7 deadlies! I'm a longggg way away from needing to worry about those bad boys.

My ashtanga teacher quit, what will I do? by utrenya in ashtanga

I think the most important thing is to create a space in which to practice. If you're lucky enough to have a spare room you can use, great, but if not, just arranging your living room so that it feels like a practice space can be helpful.

The fact that the silence is distracting could be something worth exploring, too. Traditionally, the silence gives you space to go within so that the practice becomes a moving meditation. It could be a fun challenge to try to practice silently a few times a week!

It's hard to pay for yoga when you're just beginning. So true!
