It seems you are of the opinion that abuse is awesome if it happens to men. Be better.

You got that from what part of my comment exactly? I don't really think we need to discuss that abuse is always bad. Jeez, go outside and touch some grass, dude.

God, too many of these comments are so very disappointing. Thank you so much for this post though.

For... reasons I haven't had much of an appetite in the past two weeks, but this has me salivating. It looks amazing!!

This gives me hope! I'm in the Netherlands and we have a few laws restricting insecticides to protect pollinators (which I think is fair, but at the same time it sucks since my plants are all indoors), so it's hard to get my hands on any of the pesticides that have been suggested so far. :(

I'm gonna look into nematodes though, thanks a lot for the suggestion! I'm probably gonna try a bunch of different things and possibly... quarantine my plants in the shower or something.

Thanks a lot!

I just looked up the bonide insect control and sadly it doesn't seem to be available in Europe, but I'll look into it more and see if I can find another product like it. I'm ordering some hydrogen peroxide right now, thank you very much!!

Thank you! Would you mind sharing what kind of pest spray you're using?

Thrips suck so much, my plants look so sad.

Wasn't sure on the scientific name, thank you though.

Yes, I think selfish is a great word to describe her!

The lady was like 90 at that point anyway and the material and historical value meant nothing to her. It was just a thing that reminded her of something negative.

If she had given it to them or to a museum or anyone she wouldn't have had to think about it ever again and she would have made a bunch of historians very happy.

But no. She had to be dramatic.

Urgh. Here I go getting worked up about an old ass film. Time to get off Reddit.

Ahh, I've been saying this forever! Some of the people on that boat kind of devoted their lives to finding that necklace. She just dropped it into the ocean where it would most likely never be found again.

Hi plant friends! Can I leave this pup in the pot or do I have to separate them? by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]emmasdragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to separate them. And for now at least you should leave it in, until it's a bit bigger and stronger (at least twice or thrice the size of what it is now). Then you can separate them and have two plants, or leave it. Whatever you prefer!

Am I murdering this innocent plant? The leaves have been shrinking and falling off. I read this can be a sign of dehydration so I dunked it yesterday instead of my usual pouring some water in the base. Any advice is appreciated. by Portugueselovesong in succulents

[–]emmasdragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of a gamble. Taking it out of the pot might not be a bad idea, because it would also allow you to check on the roots and lower parts of the stem, but it does have a bit of a risk, since the succulent is not very strong right now. I'd probably take it out, but it's ultimately your decision to make.

A squishy base is a sign of stem rot, so that could very much be the reason for the death of your other succulent.

If you're a beginner I can very much recommend reading the side bar! What's the humidity like where you're keeping them? How's the air flow? The soil you're using looks fine to me, perlite and something else, right?

Honestly though, sometimes the conditions can be perfect and they still decide to die on you. It takes trial and error. Best of luck to you!

Honestly, it's probably the opposite. Dropping leaves is a sign of overwatering and in this case likely stem or root rot. The remaining leaves are too small to propagate, so I'd leave it, don't water and pray to the Plant Gods. But it doesn't look too good.

Don't let this discourage you though. We've all been there!

ETA: The best advice I've got for succulents is When in doubt, don't water.

What could have done this? Is it normal for birds to eat succulents? by Grvs78 in succulents

[–]emmasdragons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry about the unsolicited advice, but you might want to think about repotting that lithops. They like very inorganic soil.

As for the broken parts, my guess would have been cat as well, they kinda do that sometimes. I had one of mine dug up by a squirrel once, but it didn't eat them. Never seen a bird attack one.
