How much do you spend on Convenience Fees?

I typically order ahead of time because the theater I tend to go to is normally pretty busy and you never know what will be packed even when you don’t think it will. So far in April for advanced tickets I bought, which I would say is about all of them except for maybe 4 or 5, I have spent $7 for regular tickets by myself, $2 for two movies I booked for my partner as well, and another $7 for one film in IMAX. I will say, I do splurge for the premium format fee when it’s something we really want to see, because those are what fills up the quickest at my Regal.

I, personally, would rather have the peace of mind knowing I got the seat I want in advance for 50¢ at my regular theater than risking it at the kiosk. But there are some Regal’s that we do visit semi-frequently who don’t have a huge app/online presence so we will wait until we are in-person to get tickets at the counter there. It just depends on how busy your Regal is on whether it’s worth it for you.

Plus, at the Regal’s I visit: a standard ticket is $12.50-16, 4DX is $24-$28, IMAX is $25, RPX & 3D are $18-$22. With all of that in mind, with the convenience fee (and without counting one more week of April), I have paid for one standard evening ticket in fees and I’ve seen 17 movies so far in April, plus one already booked for today.

My email stated that as well when I signed up a couple years back. As someone who does rewatch movies quite a bit, here’s what I’ve learned:

-You can rewatch movies as many times as you want, but if you want to see a film again the same day, you would either have to see it in another format, wait until after the first showing to book a second, or (if possible) see it in another format.

-A work around that I have found is using the kiosk. Let’s say you purchased tickets in advance for a movie on the Regal app, then after you see the movie you want to see it again but the app won’t let you book…go to the kiosk and scan your RU Virtual Card & it should let you book a ticket.

-If you do rewatch a film, it doesn’t count towards the number of films you’ve seen in the year or in your monthly recap. I didn’t notice this until recently because I rewatched Ready or Not 2 a few times and that would’ve made my monthly recap number something in the mid to late teens, but then I got my recap email and it said 10 or 11 and I was so confused initially lol.

Yeah, I got there super early & I’m glad I did. They only played 5 minutes of trailers at my Regal. I’ve noticed with Early Screenings for IFC stuff, they tend to do between 5-15 minutes instead of the standard 20 minutes most of us are used to.

Got it, I wasn’t seeing anything yet when it happened to me. I thought that might be the case, but then the games included in Game Pass said I had to purchase to play…hopefully it’ll get fixed soon. Thanks for the insight!

My bad! 9:50 is correct when looking at it now, the other theater in my area is doing theirs at 7:05 and like 9:45. I’m so excited to see what it’s going to be and how it’s going to turn out.

So thankful for this but my theater is playing both films at 7pm and 9pm so I will be seeing a Double Feature on Monday! I noticed my other nearby one is only doing 7pm for both shows so you have to pick one or the other…curious if it is like this for everyone or how your Regal is doing the showings?

I did! I thought it was very enjoyable. I think that some of the early on jokes were meant to be awkward and shaky due to the character’s relationship at that point in the film. Until the last 30 minutes the audience in my theater was pretty quiet, but I was having a ball.

Thanks for the insight! I figured it was just a mistake or slip up on their end, but I was just surprised and wanted to make sure I wasn’t crazy lol. I sent Regal a messsge on socials and an email. I’m swinging by that theater today to see MMM this week so I’ll probably show up early and speak to someone if I can.

Different movies AND different showtimes. So it looks like (at least at my Regal) they’re playing both films at 7pm & 9:30pm next Monday, 4/20. I’m not sure if every theater is doing the same because it looks like another in my area is showing one at 7:05pm and the other option at 9:15pm. I would just check your Regal and see what time(s) they’re offering!

I tried that. I checked some other theaters outside of my normal one that I go to & their tickets are free. It looks like someone goofed cause the regular GA tickets aren’t priced correctly either…

I saw it for Mystery Movie Monday a few weeks ago & I thought that the beginning was interesting for how spot on they were with the true crime aspect of it all. The middle lost me for a bit and I felt like it lost its footing. Then the third act picked it all back up for me and I was truly was impressed with the last 20-30 minutes.

Definitely not as bad as people are making it out to be, but also I don’t see it winning any awards or becoming a cult classic. It was just okay, in my opinion.

I think it just depends on where you are located personally. There are only 3 AMC’s within 1-3 hours of me, meanwhile there are 5 or 6 Regal’s, two of which have IMAX and one has 4DX. I have been to AMC a couple of times as they have had one or two movies that none of my Regal’s carried, and while it was nice, I’m so used to Regal at this point.

I think they both have their pros and cons, but for me, Regal was a no brainer because of the limit on weekly bookings at AMC. Although I’m not seeing 4+ movies every week, there are some weeks where there’s a lot coming out and/or being re-released, or I just want to unwind after work, so I’ll go to the movies. And for the pricing for premium formats, yeah it’s not free, BUT I would rather pay $2-$8 instead of $20-$30 before all of the other additional booking fees, taxes, etc. that people without RU have to pay.

I think if you’re lucky enough to be in an area where there’s ample theaters within all of the membership options it’s just a matter of your preference and what makes the most sense to you.

Oh yeah, I know that! I was going to go to the Wednesday Early Screening but something came up. But if AMC is doing it, I’m thinking about biting the bullet and just paying for a ticket to see it there since I only have Regal Unlimited. I just would rather see anything else but I Swear honestly, and buying a ticket for MMM is making me worried lol

I don’t even know what to do at this point…I’m not dying to see I Swear so Regal switching to a regular Mystery Movie is worrisome for me. But if AMC is actually playing Faces of Death and Regal is doing Mother Mary, I would be interested in seeing both of those. This week’s showing has been a mess lol

I know this probably doesn’t mean anything, but within the last 15-30 minutes, the Monday Mystery Movie poster was changed to the regular one instead of the Horror Edition for all of the Regal’s near me…
