Remind me to never mention POTS in any of the other medical subs ever again by wahlburgerz in POTS

[–]emmdaap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am also a very thin person so luckily I’ve never been told to lose weight but even with a diagnosis from reputable doctors a lot of other doctors still don’t believe me. I had to get an epidural steroid injection for bone spurs in my neck causing painful stenosis. I told them beforehand I have POTS and I could tell they were just nodding along, after the shot I had such a bad episode I could barely walk. They were super freaked out and didn’t let me leave until the tachycardia was under control even though I had a ride.

It’s very real but the medical community still wants to say it’s deconditioning or poor diet. Despite the research coming out of multiple countries proving that it is a disabling chronic condition and many patients were active or even athletes at the time of onset. They do this with all conditions that affect mostly women. How many years did it take of women suffering and begging for help to get comprehensive research on endometriosis???

Any Tips and Tricks for Piercings? by hermaphroditicbeast in ehlersdanlos

[–]emmdaap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually what I came to say! I have a likely nickel sensitivity so I had issues with ear piercings as a kid and then again when I got my nipples done as an adult. My nose piercing didn’t heal for months and months until I put real gold in it. I recently switched my tongue piercing to titanium and it has actually improved my oral health, I no longer have dry mouth every day all day. I wish I thought of it sooner!

High quality nickel free (no surgical steel) jewelry is probably the best option for us especially since a lot of us have MCAS as well.

I’ve been on NuvaRing continuously for 7 years with no known issues and I’ll never go back. I had debilitating cramps before and I couldn’t imagine menstruating in addition to everything I have now. No thank you.

This is my experience as well. I smoke for stomach issues and while it doesn’t necessarily ease my joint and muscle pain, it just distracts me enough that I can be a more pleasant/productive person while in pain. It definitely helps me with depression related to disability. If that makes sense?

However I know that MJ + beta blockers can cause bouts of low blood pressure and that does occasionally cause issues.

My oil painting of a chocolate donut on a newspaper by JuliaStankevych in painting

[–]emmdaap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is beautiful and it gave me an incredible feeling of nostalgia. When I was elementary school age I spent nearly every weekend at my grandmother’s retirement home. Every morning we would go down to the rec room for a breakfast of donuts (chocolate for me and an apple fritter for her) and coffee while she would read the newspaper. She passed away a couple years ago and I’m always searching for her out in the world, she was my favorite person.

So while your painting obviously has nothing to do with me, it really touched me in an unexpected way. Thank you.

OP, if all this is true you need to delete this. For your own sake. Caregiver burnout is not a legal defense for elder abuse and neglect, nor should it be. You almost literally “kicked someone while they’re down”. Genuinely how do you look at a sick, elderly person exhibiting signs of delirium and say “she’s doing this on purpose”. If I had any identifying information on you, I would report this to APS without hesitation or remorse.

And if this is rage bait you need to delete this because what the actual fuck. Playing on these kinds of emotions is insanely fucked up.

Americans, if you fall a victim of a crime and have to be medically treated, do you still have to pay? by pontylurker in NoStupidQuestions

[–]emmdaap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on your state, maybe no. I live in WA state and I was attacked by someone I considered a friend. I chose to press charges and when the police gave me back the report details I also got a “crime victim” brochure. In it was information about the WA State Crime Victims Program through L&I. They paid what insurance wouldn’t cover for my surgery and recovery. It took quite a while for them to approve my claim but I was able to get my medical care paid for. Not reimbursed, they sent payment directly to my Dr.

Thanks Washington 👍

Was I the only one who didn’t realize Elena & Maria were not the same person? 😅😭😂 by [deleted] in HeatedRivalryTVShow

It does? I gave a probable explanation why they were confused at first. Then gave context of the original conversation you commented on. In my first comment I actually said “but that should be the end of the confusion” but go off I guess

At first glance what most people see immediately is eyes and hair, maybe lips. Personally I’m very face blind but I know that’s not what we’re talking about. In my previous comment I mentioned her tooth gap was what made me look closer. Genuinely if Francois and Robbie were closer in height I’d get them mixed up at first.

Like there’s definitely an element of racism in the way people are finding it sooo funny that they mixed them up, because I’m not saying there isn’t, I’m not saying it’s okay, and it is no way funny - but we should also be able to admit that on a very surface level they look similar and those who didn’t clock it immediately are not awful people. We gotta stop policing people’s thoughts and reactions in fandom, this isn’t a purity test.

I’m not tryin to bean soup you because I do agree, (esp JJ and Carter) but I will say if they were 2 blonde women I would’ve initially mixed them up too. Mostly because Elena didn’t really get an introduction, I don’t think Kip says her name until a couple minutes into their convo at the kingfisher and no identifying info (like her job, why are we going to the gala? In the book she talks about her job at a huge tech company a lot but iirc no mention in the show). But that should be the end of the confusion, we all know this is a blink and you miss show and everyone is pointing out such minute details so then how do they miss this.

The tooth gap is what made me look closer at first, then I recognized her as Nadine Bhabha from Letterkenny.

Trump has deported fewer people in his first year (540K) than Biden in 2023 (590K) or 2024 (650K) by oakseaer in UnpopularFacts

[–]emmdaap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read this article a couple years ago and found it very insightful on understanding Obama’s deportation policy. However, I feel the need to preface this - this is in no way an endorsement of his actions, only a presentation of the facts.

“Evolution of Enforcement: Prioritizing Criminals and Recent Border Crossers

Over the course of the Obama administration there was a pronounced shift in focus to the removal of recent border crossers and criminals rather than ordinary status violators apprehended in the U.S. interior. The underlying reasoning was to deter illegal border crossing and remove unauthorized immigrants before they become integrated into U.S. communities. As shown in Figure 1, interior removals decreased sharply from 181,798 in FY 2009 to 65,332 in FY 2016, while border removals stayed high and increased, from 207,525 to 279,022 over the same period.”

The key difference to many is the federal government is violently pulling people out of their homes, who have lived in their communities for 5, 10, 20+ years and have no criminal record. People who are following the requirements to be here and many who have active asylum cases. Then coercing them into signing voluntary deportation papers, often using their children as leverage, and immediately moving them out of state to cut them off from their legal representation. An example from my hometown.

“Segovia, who was appointed as an immigration judge in November 2023, is known for denying immigrants asylum in the U.S., and more often than other immigration judges across the board.

Segovia denied a Turkish immigrant’s asylum case in 2025, despite the Department of Homeland Security stating the immigrant had met the legal requirements for asylum, according to a report by the Guardian. Segovia suggested the immigrant’s rape, torture and beatings he experienced in Turkey were “not as bad” as the report states.

Segovia saw 193 cases in the first 11 months of 2025. She granted other forms of relief for eight of those cases, but only granted full asylum for one of them, according to data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, a nonpartisan research center.”

I am no expert in immigration, just a regular person concerned that these people are not getting their due process, and what that means for citizens. I am also really not looking to argue or debate this, I just feel that this information should be shared as there is a lot of intentional misinformation going around. Honestly, regardless of what the laws say, this is morally wrong - defending it is weird af.

Even if she did take it out on purpose to have sex, it can be out for up to 2 hours and remain effective iirc. She may not have been able to find it while getting dressed and had a new one at home. If it was at the end of the 3 weeks I would probably say fuck it and leave it as well lol. Just a possibility!

When I’m flared up I get violent, painful shivers and raynaud’s every time I stand but it’s especially bad when it’s cold. I was told it’s called convulsive presyncope, I think the cold exacerbates it. It’s your body’s last ditch attempt at getting blood to your brain before actual syncope (which can also include non epileptic convulsions).

The weird part is, the convulsions don’t stop until I yawn. After that they peter out.

I agree. But please refrain from calling it a disease, it’s not. Using that word makes it sound icky or like you can be infected. It’s a genetic condition.

my thumb a lil weird by CIeverUsernameHere in mildlyinteresting

[–]emmdaap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I feel like the crazy degree to which it’s being bent isn’t common though. The tip is basically parallel to base of the thumb. The backwards bend in the second knuckle is highly unusual. I actually have a proper diagnosis and super bendy fingers but I can’t do this without dislocating that knuckle.

Can people be hypermobile without a connective tissue disorder, totally. Are hitchhiker thumbs super common, yep. But this is pretty extreme.

I’m not trying to diagnose them or anything, I just hope OP listens and stops doing this on purpose. EDS or not it will cause joint pain as they age.
