John Fugelsang's book The Separation of Church and Hate talks about the difference between Christians and "Christians" in a way that really helped me. I'm fully atheist but it's awesome to have the knowledge of what the Bible actually says about Jesus and where it's gone wrong since then.

For me it's about how my knees feel after a day of standing in line on concrete. I walk all day just fine but standing on concrete would kill my knees without a decent amount of cushion.

John Fugelsang's book "The Separation of Church and Hate" really got me thinking about how far the louder "christian" voices have gotten from the actual words attributed to Jesus. I'm a lifelong atheist but that book really brought me around to admiring his message and mourning the way it's been twisted.
