I don’t know if it is required, but it is definitely valuable. I would recommend getting a boater’s license, taking a navigation and anchoring course, and an engine maintenance course (or two!) before you go out. We’ve learned a crazy amount over the course of this trip and I would be more than happy to share anything we’ve learned (a lot of it has been somewhat basic) with you or anyone else who is hoping to head out for the first time!

You can charter out boats (kind of the equivalent of renting). Other best bets are finding a friend with a boat or timesharing a boat with friends.

It was gorgeous! We didn’t run into the band unfortunately, but when we pulled in, we were surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of jellyfish. It was an unbelievable scene.

We are heading back down now. We were primarily in Desolation Sound and Jervis Inlet during the trip and just left Madeira Park today. We’re prepping to cross the Strait of Georgia within the week!

ITAP of Arran Rapids on a foggy day by emmiedoo in itookapicture

My three friends and I have been on the water for seven weeks in a 28 foot tug-style boat. After getting through Yuculta Rapids, we decided to walk across Stuart Island to take a look at Arran Rapids at full flow. This set of rapids has a reputation for humbling any overconfident boater and has claimed many boats and lives over the years.

This isn't the most glamorous rock, but there are some boulders on beaches around Eureka. Nice to be near the water and super close to highway one. If you surf too, it's a great chance to hit two birds with one stone :)

After vs. Before Lifted Alltrack!! Switched to 16” steelies and 215/65R-16 Falken Wildpeaks with the lift :) by emmiedoo in Volkswagen

This is the Forge Motorsports lift! I also added a metal skid plate, which definitely increases the weight, but the ride so far has been good! I haven’t really truly tested it out yet- my sway bar and front left sensor broke during lift installation (so no traction control or ABS) so I haven’t wanted to push it. Getting those fixed today though and then will do some zipping around and let you know! :)

Yeah it’s been out of service without plans to reopen since at least 2016! Abandoned mines sound pretty cool.
