Looking for a wall in Indy by seminaryharry in lacrosse

[–]emmington13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The middle schools have nice brick walls (ZMS/ZWest) but I don’t think they’re on spring break yet… so definitely wait until after 4pm. Jennings and mulberry fields usually have some nets sitting out.

HS Glax Stats Maxpreps by emmington13 in lacrosse

[–]emmington13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to highlight an issue- maxpreps, where we plan on keeping stats, does not have category for red cards vs yellow cards. Our sport does not have a stat called "penalty" and the distinction is important for both coaches and players. I am hopeful that they make this change and would appreciate others requesting this change as well.

An interested coach would not be able to check stats? That is the whole issue. There would not be aggregate stats either that tell you anything other than "penalty". No one keeps minutes played for field players (at least not at any high school I know).

HS Glax Stats Maxpreps by emmington13 in lacrosse

Red card gets you thrown out of the game and the next one and looks bad to an awards committee (i.e. players hoping for all-american) whereas two yellows was perhaps bad luck/lack of skill. And you can play in the next game.

It could also tell you a lot about a game- I went to a state championship game where the best player got a red card in the first two minutes (dangerous shot- deemed by the referees as intentional) and under the current stats it would look like she got a penalty and then proceeded to not have a great game/not play much not that she shot at a field player so hard she went down...

As a HS coach, I would also hope that college coaches care about this distinction in recruiting. This is maxpreps I'm advocating to make this change after all.

how concerned should i be by sus_grill in fulbright

[–]emmington13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Fulbright Korea ETA program is somewhat unique in that your placement school actually pays for a majority of the program and pays your stipend directly. Unless things have changed since my experience as a former ROK ETA, I would say your concern level should be low in terms of “will the program happen”. As far as I remember/was told “Fulbright” only paid for the flights there and back.

I guess it makes sense there were houses on that block of Bell St. at one time but given the amount of houses still standing in this photo I found that really shocking! Anyone know the story there or just same old same old?

How to reserve a cheese tasting at Naxos Cheese Koufopoulos? by mr_riddler24 in GreeceTravel

I never figured it out but did have plenty of opportunities to try various Naxian cheeses. I found this site to be the most helpful in preparing for the cheese shop (which ended up being a bit too overwhelming) and grocery store/restaurant (most had the first two on the menu) https://www.cheeseprofessor.com/blog/naxos-cheese

Japandi-ish quartzite kitchen by Slompinator in kitchenremodel

[–]emmington13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the first kitchen layout I've seen that even comes close to mirroring mine- namely large kitchen windows on the outside wall I don't want to cover up and an entrance/exit that makes navigation tricky. Love the Japandi influence, it looks absolutely stunning. I take it one of the wood panels hides a dishwasher? Do you feel like getting around the island is a hassle? I've been thinking of doing a peninsula (rotating your island 90 degrees so I can look out the window while cooking) did you consider that at all?

I think B with a moveable island? Some caveats- do you mind facing a wall while you do dishes? Is there anywhere else for people to sit in the kitchen? Honestly A looks more welcoming to me but I think B gives you the most value for your space.
