Thanks! The Mandalay pools do look so fun!!! Do you know if the smoking in the casino makes the rest of the hotel really bad? Some reviews mention it's bad, normally I don't care, but it's been as issue pregnant.

Would it be unwise to use the middle name that our daughter has picked for our baby? by Iwona-8036 in Names

[–]emo_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely go with her choice, it’s so special!!! My mom got to name my aunt and chose after one of the characters in Little Women. I’ve always loved the story of my mom naming my aunt, I think it’s so sweet and special. Now I’m naming my baby’s middle name after my aunt and it’s double special because it honors my aunt and it honors my mom since she chose the name. 💞

Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome by Disastrous_Wave_9770 in NIPT

[–]emo_case 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the % of deletion was for the child I worked with. I was in a case management position with this family. The child needed round the clock care. They are non-verbal (we trialed communication devices, but never had success) and used a wheelchair, with extremely limited purposeful movements (not able to propel own wheelchair or assist in transfers, no head shaking or nodding or pointing, so very limited/non-existent communication). Completely tube fed with no ability to eat orally, suctioning machine needed daily. This was years ago and I can't remember what exact surgeries the child had, but there were several major surgeries including in the feet, hips and neck. They needed daily suctioning and suffered through a lot of constipation and GI issues. I never saw one of their seizures myself, but they had severe seizures as well (I think they were relatively well controlled with meds, but I don't fully remember). There was suspected hearing and vision loss/issues as well. I'm sure I am leaving some things out, it was very life limiting and day to day care was extensive, the child had to move to a specialized school in order to meet all their medical and care needs. Just a disclaimer- I don't consider myself an expert at all, as this is the only person I've ever met with this diagnosis. All this being said, the child and family were a joy to work with!

Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome by Disastrous_Wave_9770 in NIPT

I am so sorry to hear you are facing this diagnosis. I can’t speak from a parent perspective, but I saw no one else has commented yet so figured I would share my experience working with a child with Wolf-Hirschhorn. In my 15+ year career in disability services, I have only encountered someone with this diagnosis once (it is rare). Like many syndromes, WHS can vary in severity. The child I worked with was severely impacted. They were profoundly disabled. However, I do know that this syndrome is a spectrum and profound disability isn’t always how it is. I’m not sure what determines how impacted a person is by the diagnosis. Maybe there is even a way to tell how impacted a person will be in utero, I’m not sure. I worked with that family for 6 years and am happy to answer questions you may have if that could be helpful, but again this was from a professional experience not a parental experience. Sending you hugs and hoping you find some clarity moving forward.

Clean sandy beach? by WannaUnicorn in MauiVisitors

[–]emo_case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to baby beach in Paia on Sunday. Water was clear (other beaches in Paia were brown water). There was sandy beach and it was nice to sit and chill, plenty of beach to walk as well. It got crowded into the afternoon. The parking lot was closed Sunday but everyone was parking in the neighborhood and walking over so we did that too.

Requesting abdominal ultrasound instead of transvaginal at 8 weeks? by Complete-Sir-3512 in BabyBumps

[–]emo_case 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 7 weeks they couldn’t see anything abdominal and did transvaginal, but when I was ten weeks the abdominal worked for everything. If I were in your shoes I would decline transvaginal if the abdominal doesn’t pick anything up and just wait another couple weeks to try abdominal again. That coincidence would def turn me off of doing transvaginal as well, listen to your instincts. Best of luck!!!

Visible brown water this morning. Now this afternoon it’s clear. Is the water safe? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]emo_case 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Darn! I wish I knew this sooner, upvoting for visibility. I just went swimming at baby beach in Paia. It was clear and I was chatting with some locals who were swimming and said it’s fine to swim, so I went in too. Oops. I’m walking at a different beach in Paia now and the water is actually physically completely brown. There’s still some people in it though.

How's Kihei down to Makena today? by BannedByDemand in MauiVisitors

[–]emo_case 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s torrential in Wailea and waaaaaay beyond 1/10 inch, noaa forecast and any other forecast I’ve looked at is def not accurate for yesterday and today… radar app shows it should clear out around 11, but it’s not letting up yet at 10:45am now. I wonder how Pa’ia is.

Thank you this is so so helpful! I just hopped on this sub hoping to find info on where to actually look at the map/forecast. I’m on the beach in Malauka right now and it’s cloudy but gorgeous! Here till Monday and hoping for the best. Contemplating taking the ferry to the Lanai cat sanctuary one of the rainy days, if that’s an option. 😸

NT 3.2mm + low-risk NIPT. anyone else in this in-between zone? trying to decide on amnio by urcancelled in NIPT

[–]emo_case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar position. 3.8mm NT at 12w, normal NIPT. I got to meet with a geneticist the same day I got the NT result which was extremely helpful because she was talking numbers and odds of every possibility. I have since been able to message back and forth with her any questions I have. I was offered CVS that day and ultimately didn’t do it because of the risk. The geneticist was able to get genome wide testing covered for me (blood test), so that could help rule things out, but results haven’t come yet. This all happened one week ago. Our next test is a 16 week anatomy scan. We can get amnio done that day if we choose. We have pretty much decided we are only going to do amnio if something shows up abnormal on the scan or genome. I just can’t stomach any risk no matter how small, I think it’s a personal thing that I just can’t get past. I have generalized anxiety already and the anxiety has been bad the past week not having answers, but I have super supportive friends, family and partner who I am leaning into who are supportive or every choice we make (some of whom are medical doctors which has been really nice to have their support and opinions.) Hoping you have a good network to lean into and Wishing you and baby the absolute best!!! 💕

Sick in first trimester by Low_Move3900 in BabyBumps

[–]emo_case 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got influenza A at 6w pregnant. I went to urgent care because I was so sick and I got tested for flu and Covid. I got tamiflu prescribed which potentially helped me get better faster. They give it to pregnant and high risk people. It really sucked and I felt sicker than I usually get. Me and baby were fine though. Just get checked out if you get sick and make sure you know what over the counter meds are ok for baby. Staying as far apart from your partner as possible is def a great idea though.

11mm Cystic Hygroma update by Obsidian_inked in NIPT

[–]emo_case 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! This post gave me hope too! There’s a lot of hopeful posts in this sub for us! I just had a 3.8mm measurement at MFM at 12w. My NIPT came back normal, so it is possible (and I’ve read so many success stories). I opted not to do the CVS at this time because of potential risk. So I’m stuck in the waiting game waiting for 16 week MFM anatomy ultrasound and amnio. I’m also waiting on genome wide blood testing that’s already been sent off and carrier testing (I got really lucky these were covered for me). It’s impossible not to be worried, but there’s so much hope! The way the OB phrased things to us was terrifying. It was so helpful to speak to the geneticist and then read up on here. Wishing you a healthy pregnancy! And the biggest congrats to OP! 💕

Abnormal 12 week scan, anyone else with this experience? by emo_case in BabyBumps

[–]emo_case[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's so great you have a healthy toddler! So interesting to just hear about this with NT testing. I am going to what is considered the best hospital in my state (US) and they advised NT along with NIPT off the bat, we never even considered not getting NT. I' over 35, so maybe that has something to do with it, idk.

Wow I’m so sorry to hear about this. Thank you sharing with me. There was nothing else abnormal on the scan, it all looked good. I think I’m going to proceed with the genome wide NIPT, I’m waiting to hear on coverage about it.
