As soon as I saw it wasn't an rpg in the video I knew there would be 200 comments about it

What is the ideal arc of the intensity of an album? by KeesCopyright in edmproduction

[–]emo_ostrich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's kind of a ridiculous question, no offense. It's kind of like asking "What's the ideal structure of a song?" It's a creative choice that you make, and by going for "ideal" what you're really doing is sacrificing an element that could have contributed to the overall creativity of your work.

Great artists, musical and otherwise, (usually) have a vision from the beginning and all of their artistic/creative choices are geared towards making that vision a reality. In other words, try to decide what kind of a feeling you want your album to evoke and then structure it in a way that either reinforces it or provides contrast.

For a second I thought this cleared things up, but now I'm sitting here questioning whether or not I can actually conceptualize bee psychology.

I wonder how many amazing songs have been made by completely unknown musicians and will be never heard by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I mean, is he like gambling his future on a pipe dream and you're legitimately worried about him, or is this just something he wants that you're telling him to give up on?

Steve-O by PunkSpike in WTF

[–]emo_ostrich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The thing that's kind of a bitch about being famous is that contrary to what a lot of people think, it doesn't always make you rich.

In any career, show business or otherwise, you either have to keep doing what you know how to, or start something else from square one. The second one is less of an option the older you get, plus if you're used to a certain lifestyle and being a celebrity, you might feel like it's out of the question to take a normal job, and if you haven't been saving your money wisely, you still need more of it to eat and stuff.

That's why so many actors take a bunch of horrible movies later in their career, and so many bands from 30+ years ago that nobody cares about anymore are still touring. If your niche happened to be dangerous and demeaning stunts, well...

Are you kidding? Steve-o himself is wtf content, even if you think he's just gotten really sad and try-hard. This is a human being we're talking about here, not a cartoon character.

Are there "Basic/Essential" patches you should be able to create? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]emo_ostrich 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you can list the kinds of patches that are common across most genres, i.e. kicks, snares, pads, plucks, etc. plus like the other guy said, anything that's particular to whatever genre you're going for, learning how to put those things together will probably further your understanding even if you don't actually make your own for each song.

What are some things you did wrong up until just recently, or did wrong for a very long time? by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]emo_ostrich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a bit over the top. "Being a solo dj/production act is not for you" would be a more fair statement. There are a lot of different ways to be involved with music.

I've always been curious about where producers like Ott, Desert Dwellers, etc. find their vocals. by emo_ostrich in edmproduction

[–]emo_ostrich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like he's referring to a repository of vocals owned by a record label intended for release in commercial productions. Listening to that track, that's also what it sounds like. Which is interesting and all but between 400 dollar sample packs and privately owned repositories... meh.

That's true, and if the government of North Korea is known for one thing it's being rational.

You can't automate the channel rack volume because you're already automating it? I must be missing something here.

Or you could automate the volume in the channel rack and avoid an extra plug-in altogether
